I was thinking of getting it - but I don't have an iLok. Looks like that would cost another $50 + $25 postage to Australia. I posted on this in the Software Gear section and got no response.

One thing you can be absolutely sure of ... the Cakewalk store will be annoying LOL.

I do my best NOT to use it unless there's no other option.

One thing about the iLOK is that it works really well these days - and a lot of big plugins use it for their security.

I've had absolutely no problems with it, btw.

No thanks. I'm using my ports for ANYTHING else but that. Besdies, the F'n iLok is $50 ...screw that!

hockeyjx - V-Vocal actually does everything I want and very well!!! It's quite a useful tool...

I wanted the Antares but $500 is way too much just to have something...

BA - I really hate having to buy the iLokafter all this time I have one and now I can get a few Waves plugs... if they don't work in SONAR, I'll use 'em in Audition....

Somerset... I wish you didn't have to pay all that extra money!!! But V-Vocal will do a darn good job if the stock auto tune effect is what you're looking for... you probably know that already!!! Cheers Mate -

I understand your reluctance, but there are a lot more companies going the iLOK way so at some point you may be forced into it, subject to what plugins you like to use.

I recently bought my first iLok in order to run the Lexicon native reverbs. I must agree with Billy that its not nearly as bad as I had always heard. Its been very trouble-free so far.

You can actually pick one up on eBay for $22 with free shipping. I recently purchased a second one that way. It even came with a free license on it for Pro-tools M-Powered. So basically, if I ever want to check out Pro-Tools 9, it'll save me a couple hundred dollars.

Jesse, is your feeling about iLOK based on the very old situation where it would crash everyone's systems and cause other headaches?   If so, I must say that has all been eradicated.  iLok is very well behaved and has been for some time.

Even I would not touch an iLOK (or any other dongle) due to the mess it USED to be.

No longer the case, however.    I'm just sayin' ;)

I just think that there are better methods for software verification than a dongle/USB key.
