Please read if you have installed X1a Patch

If you have installed the X1a patch, please double check your SonitusFXDelay.dll file as the patch installs the bad file, so even if you've changed it before, you may have the bad file again, and a memory leak again. This is exactly what happened to me. I fixed this file and then updated to X1a and the problem returned. But I didn't realize it until just last night.

The SonitusFXDelay.dll file (version 3.3.4.184) located at (on my system) C:/Program Files/Cakewalk/Shared Plugins/ has a memory leak, which will slowly drain your system of all availble ram until it crashes.

Find the file on your system and rightclick and select Properties, and then click the Details tab for the version number.
You can download a good version of this file on my site here:

64bit version
http://www.brentradio.com/Music/64Bit/SonitusFXDelay.dll

32bit version
http://www.brentradio.com/Music/32Bit/SonitusFXDelay.dll

The leak used up 10 gigs of ram after 240 starts and stops. If you have less ram it will crash your system alot sooner. For someone with only 4 gigs of ram, you would see problems really fast. This could be the cause of alot of problems out there.

For the record, Cakewalk has fixed this in X1b. But until then I would double check to make sure you still have the good file.

Here's my original thread about this:

Is that the DX or VST version?

I don't know. It's the exact file that came with the 8.0 disks. I don't see anywhere where it says either way. It's in the Shared Plugins folder.

I think that's the DX version.

I could be wrong - it may be both DX and VST but I doubt it.

All I know is when I load SonitusFXDelay into a project it loads that .dll file, and if it's the .184 version then I get a bad memory leak. Changing this file solves the leak.

I'm curious to see which file version is in X1b.

Are both the DX and VST versions included with Sonar?

I thought only the DX version is included - the VST versions are separate purchase.

There are some DLL's that are both (via a wrapper) so I'm not sure how this set works.

Yeeesh. Mine was that version. Thankfully, I hadn't used that delay yet in X1 but a lot of my projects from 6PE & 8.5PE do have it. Thanks for the heads up!

Hmmm...this would also make the 64bit plugin/4GB memory problem happen more often.

    Cheers, Peter.

Running out of memory could cause all sorts of problems.

All the fx with Cakewalk or Sonitus in their names are DX plugins. In the 64 bit version of SONAR they are fully 64 bit plugs and not bridged in any way. In any case Bitbridge only works with VST plugins not DX.

Do both the 32 and 64 bit plugins have this memory issue as they are separate files?

I am pretty sure both do, but not certain.

The easy way to tell is to open the Windows performance monitor and open a Sonar project with the SonitusFX Delay in the FX bin of an audio track. Then, while watching the Windows performace RAM monitor, start and stop the project 15 or 20 times and see if you lose ram with each start and stop.

Wish I could but X1 won't run long enough to try that out. In any case I tend not to use any of the Cakewalk plugins anymore. Maybe that's why I never suffered any problems in the past and still don't with SONAR 8.5.3.

    It still happens in 8.5

What version number in the .dll file you have? That's the best way to tell.

I did read that the Sonitus issue will be fixed in X1b.
