X1 and video tutorial by groove 3

Good morning,
I am trying to watch the groove 3 video tutorial, which runs in the gPlayer software, and have x1 on my screen at the same time.   for some reason, whichever program i load first, takes over the soundcard and the other is silent.  if I load the tutorial first, then load x1 it complains that there is no sound card installed.  if I load x1 first, then the gPlayer plays but with no audio.......

any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

TIA

Have you tried enabling your on-board sound card, so that your interface is used for Sonar, while everything else uses the other card?

You need to switch the Driver Mode in SONAR to MME in order to share the soundcard drivers with Windows.

Also, in case you're interested, you may want to check my SONAR X1 Power book for learning how to use SONAR... http://garrigus.com/?PowerBooks

On my system, see sig, I can open both the Groove 3 tutorial AND X1 and listen to (EDIT)  one or the other but not both them both without changing any setting on my 2496 or using the MME drivers.

Here's what I do (did it last night) in Win 7. I pull X1 to the left hand margin which splits the screen in half and pull Groove 3 to the right (left/right it doesn't matter). When I first played the tuts the Audio engine light was off on X1. Press that to turn it on and maybe even hit the MIDI reset button next to it.

Now wherever the mouse has last clicked for focus that audio will play or more accurately whenever clicking AWAY from X1 to do something in Groove 3 the audio in X1 is disabled. A simple click back in X1 brings that audio back to X1 (EDIT) and I can hear the Groove 3 tut as well.

Again used it just like this last night with my setup below.

Spider - We don't know what your specs are.

My system works like Larry's and I am using ASIO.  Maybe it has to do with sharing audio drivers--just guessing.

    1. Sonar X1 --> Preferences -->  Audio ---> Playback and Recording --> Share Drivers with Other Programs.
    2. Windows ---> Sound ---> Playback--> Properties --> Advanced ---> Allow Applications to take Exclusive Control of this device  <checked> or Un-checked?>

I get it to work in ASIO mode as well.

ok.  I tried the MME driver, and that worked for playback of both simultaneously, but my device wouldn't show up on the list of recording interfaces so I couldn't record anything.  here's my setup:

    win 7 64 bit
korg pandora px5d using the asio driver from korg

I found the setting in control panel where i could un-check "allow applications to take exclusive control of this device". now if I load x1 first, and then the gPlayer, the tutorial now plays back thru the built-in laptop speakers and the x1 plays back thru the korg pandora - which is perfect.

thanks for all your input guys, i really appreciate it.
