EMU 1616 and Windows 7 64 bit OS
Hi Folks... I am planning to assemble a new PC, with Windows 7 64 bit (possible Ultimate edition). I have in my existing system which is based on Windows XP home edition, an EMU 1616 card which I intened to use in the new Windows 7 machine. Does anyone one know of any compatibility issue between EMU 1616( not 1616m, just 1616) and Windows 7 . Do let me know. Thanks. regards glisando.

I have the 1616m version, and regardless on what version you have, i've read how sketchy the driver support is for Win7. There are beta drivers for Win7 available on EMu's site but its not a sure guarantee on whether it will run properly. Some have reported only being able to record up to 48Khz. For now I have stuck with using the unit on the 32-bit version since the drivers are stable. I am in process of trying to test the card under Win7 64 so we will see.

I've been using my card for quite a while. While my card is on the fritz now, it was working very well in win7 64bit. The beta drivers are good but what concerns me is that they've been in beta since July. It seems that support is lacking. That's why I'm getting a better quality sound card.

1212m here. It works OK with PE 8.53 after the latency check. I haven't been using a lot of tracks with yet. Oddly, Win Media Player won't work with it. Haven't spent a lot of time debugging that, though. I may not bother with it.

The effect in patchmix are available if there is enough memory for them. You have a finite amount. I did not find any of them usable though. I did use the reverb for tracking. I did not record the reverb, I just used it for monitoring. I later added reverb in the mix process. I have a Roland Octa-Capture now. A much better interface, much better. It does not do as much as the 1616m but the OC is a superior interface.

Hi Folks.... Are the 'drivers' the only ones that need to be downloaded or do I also need to download the software for patchmix? Well I have already downloaded and installed the Win 7 'drivers' for E-MU from their website, I was than trying to install the 'E-MU Digital Audio System' from the CD I had since when I bought my 1616. However it's forever in the 'Installation is in progress. Please wait for a while' screen for a long time. Hope someone can advise. Thanks.

Hi Folks, I just started up my machine, I forgot to switch on the micro dock, so naturally all those channel strips were not activated when I invoked patchmix, that is understandable. I than switched on the the microdock and all the LEDs got turned on, preety strange. I switched off the microdock and shutdown the machine. I restarted the machine and this time I get the blue screen with the message telling me there was a failure, well it was a long message. I rebooted the machine again, this time it went into a system repair mode, after which it tried to boot up, but got hung at the stage just before before the account name appeards prompting the user for password to log in. What should I do now? I did install the Windows 7 beta drivers from the E-MU site and the patchmix software from my disc, as I mentioned in my earlier post. I have not connected my machine to the internet to download the patches for Win 7 OS yet, could that be the problem? I am going to try that now, if anyone of you has any idea of what could be causing the problem I am facing, please do share with me. Thanks. regards glisando.

You need the latest patchmix from E-MU. I think version 2.1.

Hi Guitarpima... Thanks for the reply. I dont see a version 2.1 in their website. This is what they have: E-MU Windows 7 USB Beta Driver October 2010 (0202 USB, 0404 USB, Tracker Pre USB) E-MU PCI/PCIe Windows 7 Beta Driver - June 2010 (0404/1212M/1616/1616M/1820/1820M) E-MU USB Audio Macintosh OS X Snow Leopard Beta Driver - June 2010 (0202 USB, 0404 USB, Tracker Pre) ARCHIVE: E-MU Digital Audio System Series PatchMix DSP Application (v1.81) ARCHIVE: E-MU Digital Audio Systems Series Driver (v1.82) ARCHIVE: E-MU Digital Audio System Series Driver (v 1.71) ARCHIVE: E-MU Digital Audio System Series Driver (v 1.6) E-MU Digital Audio System Series Driver v2.0 preview (Updated 20-Dec-2007) (Install First) E-MU Digital Audio System Series PatchMix DSP v2.0 preview (Updated 11-Sep-2007) (Install Last) I have already downloaded and installed the second item, the driver. Based on the list above, looks like the last item could be the logical option for the latest patch mix. I will try that and see how it goes. regards glisando

If anyone has any ideas as to what is going on, please do let me know. I am a little lost. regards glisando

Hi.. E-MU replied and pointed me to a section of their website which had version 2.1 of patchmix. I downloaded and tried installing it. Unfortunately I was greeted with the same error message as the one I faced earlier. I than also downloaded the driver (2.1) from that same page (it's dated 2008). I uninstalled my windows 7 beta driver and installed this new driver after which I tried again to install patchmix 2.1 and once again, the same error message. I am puzzled as to why many are able to launch and use their E-MUs on Win 7 while I can't even install the PatchMix!!! All this is making me take an even closer look at Roland's Octa Capture....

There are more effect in the E-MU. The OC just has compression and reverb. The OC's effects are far better though but not as flexable. I'm still getting used to the OC so I can't really comment on the routing. It looks even there though.

Guys, Don't know if this will help or further confuse. I have had an 0404 PCI card and a 1616m with microdock that I used with a laptop, then transferred the 1616m card over to my desktop using a PCMCIA adapter card. I started with XP32, then again with XP64 and used it that way for a long time with zero issues by making sure all my Windows files were up to date and all the drivers were also up to date for ALL my devices. The PCMCIA card from EMU eventually died, so I replaced it with a 1616 PCI card and still use my Microdock with it with zero issues. I do not, however, enable my onboard soundcard on the desktop, so there are not any conflicts. All Windows apps <media player, IE, etc.> use my EMU when SONAR is not also enabled. Just be sure to uncheck "share drivers with other programs". Use the ASIO drivers in SONAR and make sure your Patchmix settings match your SONAR project bit depth and resolution settings, otherwise, you WILL get BSD's and/or driver corruptions which are a headache, but you can easily fix them by immediately going to Device Manager and uninstalling your sound card, then going back up top of device manager, telling it to scan your computer for new devices and let the drivers reinstall, and then reboot. You should be good to go. I use the EMU site's latest X64 bit drivers (beta) and Patchmix downloads and they haven't given me any problems. I mainly use SONAR x32 so I can make use of all my plugins without issues, but also have X64 installed for final mix/mastering once I've completed the project in X32. No problems or worries, other than you will likely want to save your DSP Patchmix settings in a separate folder so they don't get overwritten every time you have to rereun setup. Just load your 16 bit Patchmix settings for startup and then switch to a dedicated template for SONAR and you should be good to go. Hope this helps!! PS Yes, I'm a computer guy by trade. It helps...:))

I have a 0404 pci working with w7-32 for 3 years. I have a 1820m in the music computer: w7-32, w7-64, w8-64, using the beta driver, with 8.5.3, and X1, 32 and 64. It seems to work fine. None of the crashes are directly related to the drivers. (I use whocrashed, and other utilities to determine sources of problems.) I use the analog ins and outs, and the lightpipe ins an outs, and the midi ports. Have not tried recording higher than 48. 48 up and down samples fine. Not had an emotional urge to use 96 and fill more disk space. (FYI: windows sources/media player,... add a wave strip and route to speakers/sonar. can/do play/record web/cd/dvd audio this way.) j

1616m on Windows 7 x64... "AVTecman" Some have reported only being able to record up to 48Khz. That's correct, only 44.1/48KHz. "glissando" I have read in some forums where some ppl claimed that some of the controls in pathcmix were greyed out and also some claim not to be to drag the effects and drop into the channel strips. I don't have any greyed out features in patchmix, but I've lost the ability to use patchmix's DSP FXs as a VST plugin (I never used them as such anyways). "Glissando" I am puzzled as to why many are able to launch and use their E-MUs on Win 7 while I can't even install the PatchMix!!! As I remember, there's the drivers to install first (EmuPMX_PCDrv_US_2_30_00_BETA.exe) and then PatchMix (EmuPMX_PCApp_L6_2_10_00.exe). I installed them while in my admin. account and by right-clicking on the executable and selecting "Run as Admin". I rebooted after each installation. It was basically an install and forget situation. Never a problem with it, so it's surprising to me that you're having issues.
