What's the deal with Z3ta?
I'm an old dude but my 21 year old son really digs Dubstep. I was going to mess around with Z3ta (Dubstep sounds like old-school synths to me) but can't get any sound. Just to make sure I wasn't doing something stupid (as I've been known to do) I changed the MIDI channel on my controller to the True Piano channel and had sound. When I switch it to the Z3ta channel I see indication of MIDI signal in the TV but no sound (using different presets in Z3ta). Am I missing something? Thanks, Randy

Hmm... Always loved that Synth and never found anything special that it needed. Did you insert Soft Synth as uauals with Audio and Source MIDI track?

Thanks, Randy Randy, I need some more info to understand how you're doing this. I don't get the part about changing your controller to the "True Piano" channel. Normally you insert a synth (Z3ta+ in this case) and make sure it's selected as the Track your monitoring (input echo). It shouldn't matter the channel at this point because that track is "pointing" to the synth. If you don't hear sound - try hitting space once, then again (like a quick start/stop). Sometimes there are conditions which the synth doesn't kick in (though that's an old bug that seems to have been squashed awhile back). At any rate -- using Z3ta+ is no different than any other synth. Just make sure you're getting input echo on THAT track. If you use simple instrument track, just make sure it's selected. If not, make sure you select the MIDI track associate with the synth's audio track so the MIDI track is selected and monitoring the input. Hope that helps.

Thanks for your time guys, Billy, when I wrote about changing my controller to True Piano I just meant I switched it to channel 3, my True Piano MIDI channel, to make sure everything was normal and to make sure I didn't do something stupid like not having my monitors on or something. Here's what I did though: I inserted a simple instrument track, then selected "input echo on" and then selected input midi ch 4 (and made sure output was going to master) and got no sound. Then I inserted a MIDI track and set the MIDI ch to 4 and assigned it to Z3ta...still no sound but I see the signal indicator in the MIDI track. Then I went to the piano MIDI track and selected Z3ta instead of True Pianos but get no sound there either. Thanks again guys, Randy

Isn't Z3ta a single channel synth as in it only responds to one channel? Have you tried it on channel 1?

MIDI OMNI input on the MIDI track works here for that Synth. Again no special tricks nor near as much gymnastics to get it to play. What happens if you just 'insert synth' Z3ta with a MIDI source and an Audio track? Sorry I can't help much but only because it just plays here.

If you are now on separate MIDI and Audio tracks have you got the input echo turned on?

I just had an aha moment when I just noticed I had the damned archive button pressed on...I turned it off but still nothing. So I deleted all tracks and synth started over and it works perfectly...not sure what the hell happened (probably user error) but all is well now...thanks for all your trouble amigos.

You can also use z3ta as an effect in the FX bin on an audio track. You can get some great guitar sounds out of it.

chuckebaby ive never even tried it..is like demention pro..got sounds and such??cause ive seen it in my soft synth menu..always wondered what that are? Z3ta+ is actually a classic plugin that's been used on a ton of major records. It has tons of presets - and there are tons on the 'net' for it as well. There are many synths that came along that were imitators and / or who took the Z3ta+ sound to the next level. Zebra comes to mind, Dune and others.
