X1b fixes for me and my opinion so far..
I posted my issues with X1 and felt it would only be fair to post my fixes. Thanks for the hard work Cake doods! Some of them you got, others are probably due to me and the way I work as well as being used to the Sonar's of the past. No real show stoppers here, but they are "important" to me. :)
Loss of view real estate in edit mode no matter what you do compared to S8.5 - Resizing tracks seems to be better now. Not quite 8.5, but definitely acceptable compared to what I was getting before.
Clicking folders to open tracks that may be way down the list auto-takes you back tothe top. This is highly annoying. -Thank you for fixing this!
Clicking a mute, solo or arm button jumps you to another track automatically and is not the track you were working with or sometimes they don't light up at all. -So far so good! This was a random thing that I couldn't make happen all the time. But so far it seems to be ok. Thank you!
Sometimes the whole docking thing is just a pain in the @ss and if you try to close out of a window, you close out of the whole project instead at times. You have to be very focused with what you do and effects can get docked too easily. -It appears the auto-docking margain is less now. The "all blue" window that used to hit when you tried to move an effect that stayed blue while in console view is now much smaller in where it lights up and you need to be up and centered for it to kick in. I like this much better. I still have to be careful I don't close out of a project though. LOL!
Some DX plugs crash X1 to where it just totally shuts down and show you your desk top. -Darn, still getting this with a few plugs. It's ok though. My main DX plugs are working fine. The ones that are crashing Sonar give you a choice upon install to use DX or VST. I'm glad I installed both. I just used to go to the DX versions out of habit. The VST's of these plugs are fine.
The metronome has a mind of its own. Everytime you disable it or shut it down completely, going into the preferences menu to change your ASIO driver settings or something, auto-enables the metronome to the main output bus. This is soooo annoying I can't tell you how many times I flipped out and yelled. -Dearest Lord God in heaven, thank you so much for allowing the Bakers to make the decision to fix this in this version. Please forgive me for the horrible things I have said each time that metronome kicked back on all by itself. And thank you Bakers! :)
Edit tools for midi make it too easy to delete midi notes instead of instantly editing them. You have to again, stay completely focused with what tools you have selected. I could pretty much do all my editing with the select tool, but now, you need 3 different tools to do the work of one. -We'll chalk this one up as user error and me just needing to get used to a new system. However, I would still welcome the old way be made available if it were a possibility. Though I'm getting used to this, I still feel it's a bit awkward.
I hate that I can't change colors of the console view or some other color options. That may not sound like a big deal, but when you look at this thing for 18 hours, you better love how it looks. -Yes, I hate to beat a dead horse with this color thing...but I was really hoping to see these options available to us. However, I know how much important fixing you guys had to do internally, so I'm not THAT bummed about it. Though the colors thing is important to us because we do have to look at this thing for thousands of hours, I'd rather have a good working DAW than one that just looks good. Please consider giving us the color options that some of us feel are very important?
I hate the preferences menu having every single option in one menu. It takes a bit of time to find what you need because it's not labeled the same as it used to be. -Ok, I've gotten used to this and admit I like it. The problem I have with it now is I think it would have been awesome if you used the same menu names. I have no problems with these being all grouped in one spot...but you guys are killin' me when I'm so used to looking for "global" and it ain't there! LOL! I just can't get used to the new names of these categories...but, I will as much as it pains me...and I wish the old menu's were just placed into this "all in one" group.
I hate how it's too easy to get confused while working with multiple instances of Pro Channel open at once. They claim it's a relatively small footprint yet it gives me drop-outs once in a while when I turn the compressors off and on or mess with the eq. -We'll chalk this up as user error too. I just seem to always forget to select different tracks when working with this thing and adjust something I didn't mean to adjust. I guess I need blinking lights or something to remind me about this. As for the drop-outs when enabling as well as during screenset changes, it looks as though this was fixed also. I could make this happen religiously on the first open of a project and it's not doing it at all. Excellent thank you!
I hate how the information area (for cpu, amount of ram, hard disc usage etc) no longer tells me the information I'm used to seeing and it's so small, I have to use Windows Magnifying glass to see it. -Still not liking this one, fella's. I just think it's too small to even be included and I really do like the old style way better.
I hate that the tempo tap is no longer visible and apart of the main menu. I really rely on that. -I don't quite understand why this can't be implemented into the tool bar some how. This is something I rely on quite a bit. My fix for this was Ben's mod but would love it to be available without a mod. I still would like more options within the tool bar like we used to have before. What you guys may feel is the default set isn't for everyone, know what I mean?
Sonitus no longer an option embedded into your tracks unless you open an old project where its compatible. It would be nice to have both options available and the ability to switch back and forth. Though I think the new eq has some good stuff going on, there are times I'm used to double clicking in there and messing with Sonitus because I can fine tune exact frequencies a lot better. Also, there should be an on/off active grid because many times when I've meant to double click on the grid, I've moved something by accident. -I'd still like both options to be available. PC is cool and an awesome addition. However, it's not something I want to use on everything. I have my own compressors that I like to use and actually like the Sonitus EQ to be available on every track. Worst case scenariom it's an awesome plug for dialing in exact frequencies which I can't do with PC.
How about a plot disable so you can't double click on it and mess anything up? I know the fix would be to remove it from being visible...but having that tells me a track has already been messed with. I so am having a problem fighting the habit of double clicking in the plot to bring up Sonitus...and then I sometimes move my mouse while clicking and it adjusts a frequency. Anyone else have this problem?
Console in narrow mode does not show eq plots: This is definitely a problem for me that I'd like to see remedied. -Fixed, thank you!
In/out buttons for audio drivers not telling me what I have selected unless I do a mouse-over or drop-down the box. -It's nice to just glance and know what you're looking at without a bunch of letters. I don't know if the text is too big or the button is too small....something is weird here. I just can't see what I'm working with. Anyone come up with a work-around for this? I'd just like to be able to look at this input and see "left 1, right 1, or stereo" instead of all the asio info it says before it to where you can't see what actual input you are using, unless you mouse-over and wait for it to light up or open the drop down menu. I really was hoping this would be fixed.
That covers it for me for right now. I know some of you probably have way worse issues than the little things I've posted here. I sincerely hope your issues are straitened out. Especially Mudgel as I know you can't even use X1 at all.
