Hi dajiang,

The list of possible causes is also epic :)

There is not enough information to start a serious troubleshooting session but you may want to start by checking your DPC latency with the small free app available here.

If you haven't done so, you will want to check your power scheme settings, laptops typically come set up for battery savings not performance.

Your laptop is not a screamer by any means but the 5400 rpm hard drive could cause issues when data throughput speed is essential.

My suggestion is to search the forums for pc optimization references - there are several good guides around including one on Sweetwater's site.

best of luck
EJ

It may be that it is only seeing the on board sound card and not seeing your Tascam.  If you are using it on a Hub or plugged into a different USB port than where it was first installed it may not be showing up as available.  When you go into Preferences(P) - Devices ensure that only your tascam is checked for both input and output.  Uncheck your onboard sound if it is listed(realtek of whatever is installed on the computer)

Also as EJ mentioned above if you only have the 1 drive and it is a 5400rpm that will definitely add to your problems.  An external 7400rpm usb hard drive for your Audio and sample libraries would also help if you don't already have one.

Your inability to access the WASAPI or ASIO seems to point more in the direction of your Tascam not being selected/accessible.

thanks Bentedgz and Lorneyb2. I forgot to mention that I DO also use an external hardrive solely for audio samples/files and pictures/video (to free up as much space on the Laptop). http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148405

I've just downloaded the DPC latency checker and sure enough the bars are up high in the red zone. I've got a feeling that it is most likely my wireless connection or something.

I still haven't started SONAR x1b yet, but after going through DCP I'll see what I can get corrected.

dajiang,

Glad you found some DPC issues, at least those can be fixed, and you're right about the wireless, any lan connection is going to cause DPC spikes but wireless is much worse.

Here is a thread that lists several of the best tweak sites.

Best of luck

alright, thanks everybody. I know it's been several weeks now but I HAVE been using everyone's advice.

plus, I wanted to have enough time to test the X1 B update to see how that compared.

Overall, I'm still getting some awkward latency issues, particularly if I record more than 2-3 soft synths (if I don't freeze them for some reason the latency on ALL tracks [Midi and Audio] starts to react dramatically).

I'm hoping that there is another update/quick fix. Either I still have some more tweaking and researching to do or something isn't right here.

Thanks!
