Sonar 8 Producer no sound from Realstrat or Truepianos

Hey all, first post, noob question. After Googling my eyes out virtually all day, unsuccessfully trying to find a matching forum post somewhere, I said to heck with it, I'm just gonna ask.

I want to get better instrument sounds on an existing midi file. I have Sonar 8 Producer, and just added Realstrat and Truepianos, but I can't get either one to make any sound when playing an existing midi track. The file plays fine in its original form, and I can change instruments within the standard Sound Font list without a problem, but as soon as I change over to an inserted soft synth it goes silent. The synth configuration windows' meters are working but nothing's coming out of the speakers. I've followed the help file instructions, and made sure the outputs on the midi track match the inputs on the soft-synth-created synth tracks, and if I bounce back and forth between the soft synth and my default sound card synth while the track is playing, I can hear my sound card's synth but not the soft synths. I've tried resetting and then rescanning the VST plugins. When I open Realstrat on its own it plays fine. Any ideas? Thanks!

Please explain more what you mean about changing the instruments in the standard soundfont list.  are you using a soundblaster or something?

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

Make sure when you insert the TruePianos soft synth, you check the audio outputs, like so (ignore the fact that this isn't TP - the process is the same). You may well have other options checked as well, but the audio is what you need.

Then make sure your MIDI track output is assigned to the TruePianos synth and that the output of True Pianos is assigned to your sound card (or the Master bus, if you have one). Again, ignore the fact that the picture shows TTS1 as the output of Track 1. Yours should show TruePianos.

There is a good tutorial in the PDF manual which goes through using soft synths step-by-step. Work spending some time with.
    Hope this helps.

Hmm, it works now (yay!), and I could swear it was set the same way yesterday. I definitely had the "all synth audio" box checked as per the instructions (I did go through the help file instructions on how to insert and how to play midi tracks with soft synths, and more than once). The only difference I see in the screenshots though is that my synth track input does not list TruePianos, so I have it set to "omni", and the output to the Sound Blaster's "synth A" (have synth A or B to choose from). But for whatever reason, it works now, so thanks  guys! I musta missed something the first 47 times I inserted them, lol.

Boy does TruePianos blow the doors off the acoustic grand in the original sound card library. It sounds like it's actually using that 75-watt surround amp now :D All the reverb and pitch, etc. controls in TruePianos work too, so I know it's actually going through that synth. RealStrat's working now too, although I need to play with the sound some. Whatever you voodoo guys did, thanks! LOLOL

And yeah, I have a sound Blaster Audigy 2 zs Platinum that I bought maybe 6 years ago, the one with all the REAL audio connectors in the extra front CD drive bay (Platinum Drive), that I love so much better than crawling around the floor in the dark trying to find the right mini-plug connector. It's in its third computer now, and I plan to keep putting it in every new computer I get until it finally dies. My point was only that all the "normal" instruments worked fine, I could change from guitar to piano etc. without a problem. It was only the inserted soft synths that failed.
