Advice/Feedback sought for new PC build for X1/Sound Forge based Pro Studio...

Gentlemen,    This DAW will be the centerpiece of a small professional studio and must be absolutely reliable. I have used Sonar since the beginning (Cakewalk 3.0) on up to Sonar 6, but I abandoned it a few years back as my projects grew too big for my PC to handle. So I am pretty excited about building a new, fast PC to run Sonar X1. Hopefully, with all the new workflow enhancements I can put this program back to work for me.

BTW, I don't plan on OC'ing in the near future, but will add a better cooler when the time comes for more speed...

Any advice or feedback about my proposed components would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

CPU:         Intel i7-2600k 3.4 Ghz

MB:          Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD3-B3 P67

RAM:        Corsair Dominator CMP8GX3M2A1600C9 PC12800 DDR3 Dual Channel 9-9-9-24 8192MB x2 (4x4MB=16MB)

Video:      Nvidia GEFORCE GT210 PCIe 512MB

HDD:       Hitachi OF 10383 Deskstar 7K100.C 7200 rpm, SATA 36, 32 MB 1 TB x3

OS:          Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Case:       Zalman Z9 Plus ATX mid-tower

DVD:       Plextor PX-L890SA-26 24x DVDRW optical drive

PS:          Cooler Master 700w Silent Master Pro

Monitor:  LG W2343T-PF 23" widescreen LCD, HD 1080p, 1920-1080, 30000:1 Dynamic, 16:9, DVI

I'm hoping I did my research well and all of the above components are appropriate and compatible. I've got my fingers crossed!

Anything I may have overlooked?

Thanks, again...Shane

Use triple channel RAM, not dual.  The i7 uses a triple channel memory bus + controler built onto the silicon. Your RAM should be 6, 12 or 24 Gb

Use an SSD drive for Windows and programs, put your project files + samples on the others.

A pair of monitors (depending on your working style) is generally better than one.

Uhh NO there are numerous i7 that are dual channel..
SSD is useless for an OS.

to the OP it looks fine, i prefer Mushkin ram and Seagate drives.

AFAIK all the Sandy Bridge mobos are dual channel only aren't they?
The Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD3-B3 P67is anyway

i have 2TB hitachi deskstar drive as one of my hard drives and all I can say is that it is quiet and fast.

I went off Seagate/Maxtor drives (they are the same) when a cap went pop on the control board.
That said I think my Iomega ext drive has a seagate inside it  - it runs very hot though

Thanks to everybody for looking my list over, I appreciate it..
Is there anything wrong with my plans for using four sticks of 4MB memory? Karyn mentioned using 6, 12 or 24 GB only, does that apply to dual-channel ram?
TIA...Shane

no 4 x 4gig is the correct memory config for that system.
all SB's are dual channel for now. when the new ones release in Dec/Jan they will be tri-channel and server (dual CPU will be Quad)

Karyn,
Now you have me thinking about a dual DVI video card!
I didn't like using two CRT monitors in the past, but I bet two flat screens would be nice. If not now, it would be nice to have the option to add another in the future...thanks! Shane

OK, then...

How about this for a dual-dvi card?

ATI 4550 512mb DH PCIE-X16

Anybody have experience with this model in particular?

Thanks for your help! Shane

Thanks for your help so far!

Hang on, I'm almost there...hehe..

Back to video cards...

I found this one at tigerdirect.com for less than $45 and it has everything I'm looking for (I think) except it doesn't have dual heads. BUT, the spec sheet says it supports 2 monitors at the same time.
How is this possible with just one DVI output?

Doe the second monitor route through the VGA jack?
Thanks again for all of your help. I appreciate the value of real hands-on experience...Shane
