Display artifacts/disappearing CB - what could it be?
Looks like a few people are having display problems. Control Bar disappearing is one, I've seen failure to redraw unselected areas, I'm sure there are others. This seems like a software issue, not hardware. Hardware graphics corruption is unlikely to affect just the Control Bar. So here's a question for the Windows gurus here: is it possible that some intrinsic graphics library is not playing nice with X1? For example, I'm sure people will have quite a range of versions of .NET on their machines. Could this be a problem? What basic software library does X1 call to draw the Control Bar - must be similar to menus in all programs. I can't imagine that Cakewalk programs this basic function from scratch. If we could figure this out, then find out the different versions of the relevant library that everyone has, maybe a pattern will emerge. Cheers, Peter.

I have all the current versions of .NET installed. SONAR also calls on a number of C++ runtimes which are also installed and updated to the latest versions as well. I have the disappearing CB as well as the disappearing Minimize and Maximize icons on the top right corner of the Main SONAR window.

What about up to date Direct X versions? Could that matter?

Those disappearing Min/Max icons sound like system stuff. I know there can be problems with desktop icons (related to iconcache.db getting too big), and sometimes system resources get used up. For example, GDI objects can get exhausted (there's a limit in the registry) - see http://en.wikipedia.org/w...phics_Device_Interface See the "Limitations" section near the end. Ref #12 leads to a Windows Desktop Heap Monitor that might be useful too. I'm no expert on this stuff - hopefully some Windows-wise Sonar user can chime in, but this seems like an OS issue, not an X1 issue. Cheers, Peter.

thomasabarnes What about up to date Direct X versions? Could that matter? Good point. And is it working properly? In WinXP, dxdiag is pretty useful. I have a vague recollection there's no such utility for Win7. Perhaps we should all include the version of .NET, DirectX, etc in our sigs? Might help spot common factors in problems. Cheers, Peter.

Perhaps we should all include the version of .NET, DirectX, etc in our sigs? Good point. It could prove to be useful. Or at least the one seeking help could list what versions of these software are being used on the PC with the problem. Windows 7 does have the dxdiag utility. :)
