How can I make more plugins available in GTP4?

How can I make more plugins available in GTP4?

I have some audio fx plugins that I use with Sonar (eg Sonitus, Nomad) and that I would like to use with GTP4 but I can't seem to make them known to GTP4.
The scan button in my Plugin Manager is greyed out and scans with the old Cakewalk VST utility seem to have no effect.
What's the process? What am I missing?

I'm a guitarist, not a scientist, recording audio/midi via SONAR Platinum.
Win7 x64, i7, Focusrite Saffire Pro40, A-500 Pro, 12GB RAM, 2.9GHz

    Just a guess, but are they 64 bit, and your GTP4 is 32?
