Reinstalling - Need Help With Choosing Directories

Hi there.

I'm reinstalling, and I'm a lil' confused by all the different directories I need to choose.

I'm installing X1 under recommended settings(most of the plugins, but only the studio instrument suite as soft synth, no other soft synth).

What I want:
on C: - the program (and the apps related...)
on E: - the samples of both the studio instrument suite and the audio samples of sonar(loops).
on C:\VstPlugins - the .dlls

Thx in advance

EDIT:

Maybe it would be simpler if you could answer what will be installed in each of these directories:
1)Shared Folders
2)Vst Folder/Vst Plugins(is it the directory for just the .dlls?)
3)Perfect Space(Is this for the whole plugin or just its .dll?)
4)Application Content/Cakewalk Content

BTW - why does sonar installation show this:
Destination location:
      C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\SONAR X1 Producer
      C:\VstPlugins\64 (VSTi)
      C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\ (Shared Components)
      C:\VstPlugins\64\Perfect Space\ (Perfect Space Content)
      C:\VstPlugins\64\RXP\ (RXP Content)
      C:\VstPlugins\64\Session Drummer 3\ (Session Drummer 3 Content)

      C:\Cakewalk Content\ (Application Content)
When I clearly DESELCTED session drummer and RXP.

Are you installing 64-bit, 32-bit, or both (versions of Sonar, that is)?

    1) Shared Folders will include...
    • Shared DXi
    • Shared Plugins
    • Shared Utilities
    • Shared MIDI Plugins
    • I also include VST and VSTi directories here.  (The separate VSTi directory is because WaveLab had a bad attitude when its VST scanner ran into soft synths.)
    2) VST Folder is where the SONAR VST scanner will look for VST dll's.
You can put anything you want here, but the VST scanner will traverse all of it...so...if you have a bunch of content under this (or these) directories, your VST scan will take longer.

    3) Perfect Space
I think this is just for the dll, but I'm not entirely sure.  (Note that the dll is the entire program, except for the .chm file.)  I keep the impulses in another directory tree.

    4) Application Content/Cakewalk Content
All manner of other poo, like Arpeggiator Patterns, CAL Scripts, templates, icons, ProChannel presets etc etc.

BTW - why does sonar installation show this:
Because the installer isn't quite that sophisticated.  I wouldn't sweat it much.

audio/midi loops are in the shared folders too?

where are the studio instruments suite samples are stored?

I'll say what I want again:

    the program on 1st drive(C:)
audio loops/samples + studio instruments suite samples on my 2nd drive(E:)

this is because of the well-known thesis about HDs/Files managing that says:
1)drive of the OS and Programs
    2)drive for samples
    3)drive for recorders audio files/projects

so I'm just trying to implement this idea, and have all my files/programs etc. well organized :)

Audio and MIDI loops are under Cakewalk Content.

Studio Instruments (sadly) get automatically installed under C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Studio Instruments.  I don't know of a way to select a new location.  (This is a point where I finally gave up on relocating things under my C:\Music structure.  I spanked my inner OCD child and sent him to bed.)

I bet there's a way to extract the studio instruments from the installation or use the license of x1 with a separate installation.

But I have better substitues for it anyways, long live Kontakt and NI :)

I'll just place cakewalk content on another drive and make peace with myself :)

BTW - it's not just the OCD child I'd have to sent to bed, his bad-big-brother Get-The-Most-Out-Of-Your-System-Specs-Boy is quite awake too :)

There are likely relatively easy ways to relocate Studio Instruments after they have been installed...if you have made peace with your registry editor.  But I frankly don't have that much interest in them (except for watching the animated violin bows for entertainment).

I feel my life force being sucked away after every relocation campaign.
