Midi instrument latency

I know the frenzy right now is X1b, but I have an issue that I don't think is related.  The issue I've been having is terrible latency when playing midi instruments with the A-Pro 500 midi controller.  It's enough of a delay that it's impossible to play in time with previous tracks playback.

My system is I7 processor with 6 GB RAM, Winders 7 64 bit.  My soundcard/interface is a Tascam US-800.  I have the Tascam latency set as low as it will go, and in X1 preferences, it is reporting ASIO latency at a total of 8 ms.  This can't be right or it's measuring something other than the time between hitting a key and the sound coming out the speakers.

Is there anything else I can adjust to make it better?  I hoping I'm missing something.

In the midi options in preferences there is an option to increase a buffer or something. It is probably 256. Try 512?

Notation, the original DAW. Everything else is just rote. We are who we are and no more than another. Humans, you people are crazy.

    Thanks guys!
I did verify that I'm on the latest driver for the Tascam.  Also (I'm going from memory here) I think the buffer size is gray'd out when I pull it up in preferences.

Maybe you have to adjust the buffers from the ASIO interface?

I think I figured it out.  It's amazing how just recklessly hitting buttons can do wonders :-)

I discovered that enabling the PDC button in the tool bar (override automatic plugin delay) makes a world of difference.  Hitting keys on the midi controller plays notes in real time now and I can actually play and record in time with previous tracks.
