New Comuter. About to install X1

I have a quad core, running Win 7-64 bit.  I have installed my M-audio external sound card with current drivers for my OS.  I understand that I need to disable the onboard sound card.  Did my M-Audio install do that, or is there something I need to do?  I certainly want to avoid conflicts.

Any suggestions?   Any other recommended system tweaks to the computer before I plunge?

Did my M-Audio install do that

No. You have to do that from the Windows Device Manager.

Try to disable the onboard sound in the BIOS if you can. If it's an Intel system, wouldn't hurt to disable Speed Step and HPET while you're in the BIOS as well. Don't forget to do a search on the forum here for info on how to turn off  core parking in Win 7. Also remember to do the Thread Scheduling Model tweak in SONARl. The default is 1, change it to 2 for quad cores or higher. After you do your basic install of SONAR, add the update patches run the program and reboot the machine...it's sounds very Windows 98, but it helps. Look into your power profiles and try to get rid of anything that wants to put the PC to sleep. M Audio stuff gets flakey with Hibernation. Check to see if you have a high-end graphics card or not. If not, you would be best served to switch off Aero in your video settings.
