I remember reading that thread cited by ThomasBarnes, but this time I just glanced at the posts through the first page. I agree with those who recommend not attempting any tweaks with Windows 7. As much as I recommended doing many of the tweaks in Windows XP, I think you have little or nothing to gain by doing tweaks to Windows 7. One thing that I would like to hear directly from Cakewalk would be their view of the background services tweak for X1. In earlier SONAR versions, Noel Borthwick recommended not setting the background services for best performance, even though most other audio programs did recommend that tweak. Has that changed for X1?
Software: Cakewalk by Bandlab; Adobe Audition; Band-in-A-Box audiophile; Izotope Ozone; Encore; Melodyne; Win 10 Pro, 64-bit. Hardware: Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 2nd; Roland Integra-7; TCE Finalizer; Presonus Central Station, Behringer X-Touch. Home built i7 with 16 GB RAM, SSDs.

Hi Sergio, I started a thread a while ago asking for help also. I did everything in this thread and I am blown away by how much better my system performs. The biggest performance increasing thing I though was add a 2nd HDD, but before I did that, I saw a significant improvement just by doing the tweaks that folks mentioned. Some people debate on whether or not to turn off page filing. I did it and saw significant performance increase. Some say just the opposite, so you'll have to try and see for yourself. Good luck. Bub

In earlier SONAR versions, Noel Borthwick recommended not setting the background services for best performance, even though most other audio programs did recommend that tweak. On my system, the only tweak I have is that I set Power Options to the High Performance setting. SONAR runs well for me. I remember Noel saying not to use the background services setting, too. I haven't used it since I read that post of Noel's. Of course, I do reccomend having a separate HDD for projects and a separate HDD for samples, if that is possible. But Windows 7 seems to run SONAR fine without the tweaks we used to apply for Windows XP.

sergiobklyn Hi, Are there any Windows 7 tweaks for optimal usage of Sonar X1? Thanks, Sergio The answer NO! Windows 7 comes tweak right out the box! THe only thing you should mess around are: 1. Disable UAC 2. Change POWER Scheme to----> No POWER saving 3. Disable core parking. That's it! Don't do anything else with your system. Windows 7 Tweaks that you find on the internet are just a joke.

This is also a joke, Background Service. It was Mattias Carsten RME that recommended their RME users to set it to "background" to get lower latency with ASIO on XP32. Their chipset didn't work correctly. ASIO or audio or your DAW program are not a Background Service. I has no impact on the ASIO driver at all, its just myth. The only thing that happens are that your computer work worse, slower, lower performance. Still some like Stienberg, Focusrite, Pro Tools etc.. manufacturers recommended in their manual set Background Service instead of PROGRAM to get lower latency with ASIO. That AVID and Pro Tools has no clue we all already know but that Steinberg still remmonend it is very strange to me...? Even Mattias Carsten at RME doesn't recommend their users to use "Background Service" anymore....

But haven't disabed Core Parking. I'm still thinking about the benefit. My system currently runs great as it is, including SONAR running great at ultra low latency settings.

(Sorry for the bump, Interested in this subject as well, didn't wanna open a new thread :) ) http://www.presonus.com/m...optimizing_windows.pdf There are some things in this one that seems to be quite logical(turning off indexing for example). Also, having a USB card used by Windows' ReadyBoost for more memory(or at least let the OS use it as memory, leaving bit more room for the DAW) You think those are unnecessary as well?
