Stutter on save during playback
I have made another stab at using X1 since X1b has been released. I have found a few oddities, but the big picture items are these; I can not comfortably do a save during playback because the audio stutters which is not only annoying, but also embarrassing. I also notice that copy and pastes of large chunks of audio take a very uncomfortable amount of time complete. I've never experienced this with past generations of Sonar. As much as I want X1 to work, it seems to me that it is still a work in progress. There may be some "advances", but at this point it seems like 1 step forward and 2 back. Honestly, I feel that long time customers deserve more than this.

Doctor my head hurts whenever I hit it against a wall. Doctor, then don't hit your head against a wall.

So you're suggesting that I simply don't save during playback? What about if one wants to use the auto save function? I don't believe auto save discriminates as to when to save. I believe it's essential to save continuously (and consequently subconsciously...). This stuttering bit is a short fall of the "new and improved" Sonar X1.

Right I don't use auto save for that reason. Who knows when it will kick in and screw up something. I do save but on my own terms.

Jay, you're right. I usually hit the save button on my Mackie whilst listening back all the time. Save crack and pop with X as you. Don't remember this being the case in 8.5. Although, it seems more prevalent with large projects for me. Anyhow, it should not be happening! :-(

I am getting the same behavior in X1c; whenever I save during playback, there is a crackle/stutter. This is very annoying, as I like to make edits on the fly (while the project is playing) and I like to save often. I also notice a similar crackle/stutter whenever I stop playback while recording. I wonder if the two are related.

Poor old mis-understood autosave ......... anyway Autosave doesn't save when the transport is running it waits until the transport stops and then saves. FWIW I do get problems hitting save on bigger projects but I have an underpowered system (by CWs recommendations) so that may or may not be a reason. It's fine with smaller projects and I was seeing exactly the same problem in 8.x - i.e. small project no problem, bigger project = stutter. Although I think the size of a project that produces the problem has shrunk in X1.

I just was tweaking sounds in a soft synth, without playback running, and every 50 changes (or whatever I have set), auto-save would kick in, interrupting the sound with a stutter. The strange thing is when I would manually save, I couldn't get the stutter. Weird. Out of curiosity, does the save stutter affect *everybody* or only some of us? Is anyone able to save without hearing a stutter in whatever sounds are playing?

I just tried increasing the audio latency and found that the stutter goes away. This is fine for mixing, but not so fine when recording and editing on the fly.

I presume we are talking about similar things, But i can not save a song while its playing without it crashing aprox every 2nd or 3rd save, so i must stop the project to save and all seem fine, no big thing now i have sussed that out, i must just get out of the habit of saving while a song is playing like i have done in other Daws, But i must admit iit baffled me for a while, so thats one puzzle solved and varyfied for me.
