SonarX1 won't record

I have stumped not only myself but the tech dept at Sweetwater . . . so far. . . please help.  Just installed Sonar X1 on my brand new computer (Dell, i5, Win 7, 32bit) - everything works but I simply do not get an audio recording line level (no meters moving) - midi recording works just fine but audio will only record a flat line.  I am also using an M-Audio Fast Track Pro.

To be sure, I installed X1 on my old laptop (Win7 32-bit) . . . everything works like a charm . . . so I unplug the FTP from the laptop, put in the new computer . . . Audio record will not work.

Everything is set in the new computer just like the old computer and yet the problem persists.  Yes, all the proper drivers have been loaded, all the proper in/outs have been selected, and all the settings are the same as the laptop.  Aaaaaah!

Any ideas?

Saw something else like this on a friend's PC. Try plugging the FTP into a different USB port, let Windows "find" it again. That worked at this end, but we also had to change USB cables, the one from M Audio had a short in ti somewhere that caused glitches.

Yeah . . . tried two different ports and also replaced the cable . . . none of which was successful.  Anything else?

when you say that the proper drivers have been loaded and all the proper inputs/outputs have been selected, can you be more specific?  where have you selected them?  what driver mode are you using?  what is listed for the RECORDING and PLAYBACK DEVICES in OPTIONS>AUDIO?   you said X1 - this is not acutally the X1 forum, so I was responding as if you had Sonar8.5 or below.

press the "P"  on your keyboard - that's where the AUDIO OPTIONS can be found and where you can find the RECORDING and PLAYBACK DEVICES.

Check the Windows mixer and the M-Audio control panel. You probably have a fader turned down or muted. Sometimes its the simple things that cause the biggest problems. Don't assume the problem is with Sonar... its your setup that's not quite right.

Sorry for posting in the wrong section.  Obviously new to the forum thing and haven't found my way around properly.  Thanks for the help nonetheless.

To answer all the questions . . . all things that have been suggested have been thoroughly examined.   I too have assumed that this was something simple that I am missing in my setup but simply have not been able to discover it yet.  I am using the ASIO mode but have also tried the WDMK mode and drivers with no success.  All faders on Windows mixer and Sonar are set to appropriate levels.  My FTP is listed as both the playback and recording device.  I am using Windows 7 on both computers - both 32 bit.

The only difference in the setups between the two computers that I have noticed is that in the older computer, in the input drivers tab under devices, the following is listed even though I have nothing connected to it:

M-Audio USB ASIO S/PDIF 3/4 Fast Track Pro

I don't understand how this could make a difference but I thought it curious that it appeared in the list on the old computer but not the new.

As for drivers and devices, in Sonar I have checked them all in the audio options and also used the device manager of Windows 7 to make sure it was pointing to the correct drivers.

So . . . I still believe it is something simple but it is escaping me.  Thanks for your continued input and patience.  I appreciate it.

Hey guys.  Thanks for the help.  I tried something different.  Though I had tried multiple different USB ports, I had never tried the ones on the front of the computer.  As soon as I did that, everything worked.  Thanks for the help!

Somehow I don't think changing USB ports magically solved the issue unless you have re plugged it into the one you originally used the first time you installed the drivers.
It is a good idea to always use the same USB port, you can't install the drivers without connecting the interface during install. And what can happen if you change ports is it will ask to install the drivers again.

The 3/4 SPDIF in/ out is available in 44.1 mhz but will not work under 48mHz. mode.
