X1b - 2 possible bugs

I think I have found 2 possible bugs in X1b.

1. In an audio track I automated the prochannel eq in a very simple way.  I simply turned on the EQ 2 bars into a 4 bar recording.  The automation ONLY work if the prochannel is selected and visible!  If I de-select the prochannel tab to hide the controls, the on/off automation of the EQ does not work.

2.  After mixing the same track and hearing the automation of the EQ work (with prochannel visible) and I export the audio, the automation of the EQ does not translate to the exported audio.  Other automation (envelopes) work just fine.

Can someone else try this and see if it works for them?  It is pretty simple to set up.

Thanks!

Joe

Sorry I just tried it and could not duplicate.  Prochannel worked the same with it visible or hidden.

    Really?  that is very interesting.

Can I ask you how you automated the on/off of the EQ?  I used the "W" button, pushed play, pushed the EQ power button at the correct moment and then ended the track.  Sonar drew in a green envelope on the track.

Is this how you did it?  I wonder why it is not working for me? hmmm

    Thanks for your help!

Yes, that is what happened. I got a green envelope too from the bottom to the top of the track.  When it doesn't work for you is there still the automation drawing?

Yes, the automation drawing is still there.  Hmmmm

I will try this again tonight when I get home.  I will also call Tech Support if I can't get it sorted.

    Thanks!

I am able to reproduce this in X1b x64. Here's what I see:

When I close the Prochannel (not just close the Inspector, but actually go back to the channel strip display), the EQ automation stops having any audible effect.

When I then re-open Prochannel, the power button switches on and off with the automation, but the signal indicator does not light when the power is on, and there is still no audible effect.

If I click the power button to reverse its state when it's showing OFF, the EQ will become active and stay in that state, not turning off when the power button goes off again with the automation.

I also found that undoing the automation did not clear the problem. After writing a new automation envelope, it still has no effect. The EQ will stay in whatever state it's in when playback is started.

This seems related to the false-status problems that ProChannel had in X1a.

Wow, I followed brundlefly's instructions (going back to channel display), And the eq and compressor would not work
Just like you said. easyjoey.  I closed the project and saved the changes I made and when I opened it back up everything worked and now it works again.  That is so weird!  So I guess for now don't turn off prochannel (by clicking on the tab) just x out of the inspector.
    Thanks, hope this helps

went back to the saved project and everything works now no matter what I do. Very strange behavior. I can turn off pro channel and it still works if I close prochannel or x out of inspector.  Very strange, But I was able to produce it once.

Strange.  I am glad that both of you have experienced the same problem and I am not using this incorrectly.

I will contact Cakewalk about this and see what they have to say.  I wont be able to do this until Monday and I will keep you posted.

    Thanks for your help!

That's good to know. I didn't try that.

I'll file my own Problem Report when I get  chance. The more reports Cakewalk gets, the more likely they are to fix it promptly.

I just spoke with tech support on this issue.  They were able to duplicate the problem and admitted it is a problem.  They said a work around is to simply automate the EQ bands and NOT the simple way by automating the on/off switch! haha   Oh well, I hope this is fixed in the future.

I thought this was fixed with one of the QuickFix releases.  Are you up to date on the fixes?  Are you reporting that this is still an issue?

    amiller,

I have not done ANY of the quick fixes and the tech support guy told me it was not solved with the quick fix.  Maybe he is wrong?  I would think the tech support guys have the quick fixes on their systems but for whatever reason, he was able to duplicate the problem just as I described.

I will try the quick fix and see if the problem still happens.

    Thanks

    Hey Everyone,

This particular issue is a known limitation at the moment. The On/Off state of the ProChannel modules does not currently read ramp automation properly. This only applies to enabling or disabling the modules, not to the parameters within the modules themselves.

We actually have had a KB article up on it for a while. See http://www.cakewalk.com/S...reader.aspx/2007013241

I just wanted to acknowledge that we know about this and that the QuickFixes do not address this limitation.
