Air raid
Is this unusual? Opened my room door, sat done and worked in my DAW. Then shortly after 3 bees were circling on me, i moved away and observed. They were circling my light bulb, and it's 9.43 PM. 1. Aren't bees asleep by night? 2. Bees don't circle around lights right?

Went to the laundry, the lights and the fan were surrounded by 50+ bees. Killed them all. The front house also had a couple circling in the lights. We are under attack.

There are many many types of Bees... we have dozens or more here in North Florida. from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bee " There are nearly 20,000 known species of bees in seven to nine recognized families,[1] though many are undescribed and the actual number is probably higher."

@Mike Weird thing though, this is the first time. And they rushed inside my room. I don't know about the type, but it was the stereotypical yellow-black striped one. It wasn't hairy. I had to duct tape my windows just to ensure that they won't come in. I really don't know what pissed them off, but they sure loved the electric fan downstairs.

I would have recommended turning off the lights and the fan. :-S The bees would move on and do what bees do.

I think Miggy should have started paying "Flight Of The Bumble Bee" and they would have gone to sleep.

Sounds like you probably have a hive in the attic or a wall - they only need a small hole to get in. You'll want to have that removed ASAP or else you could have major structure issues from the honey. You're lucky that you apparently don't have the Africanized so-called "Killer" bees. They would definitely be after you in a heartbeat. I had a couple of scouts get into my house down in Southern California and I managed to catch one in a jar. A bee removal place took it and tested it just to find that it was indeed Africanized. So they came out and found a hive outside, cut it down and the bees chased the truck for over a mile(!) before giving up. Flying, stinging insects are NOT anything I want to be around!

Sounds like yellow jackets...a small shiny black & yellow wasp with a bad attitude when they get mad.... part of the wasp family, they can sting multiple times. They live in holes in the ground and also love to build their nest in walls. they can get into the room through a very small crack and then usually can't find their way out. Check the outside of the house during the day. From the sound of it (50 on the laundry room) they have a hive in a wall. You should be able to locate the entrance by standing at a distance and observing where they come from and go to. A large hive will require professional expertise to get them all out. I have seen a few hives in walls and there can easily be 15000 wasps in that hive. It is sometimes necessary to remove wall boards to get at the hive and remove it. First thing to do is see if you can find how they are getting into the house and plug that hole/crack so they can not enter the living area..... because when they start to exterminate the hive, they will pour into the house and they will be mad. A proper bee suit is needed to battle them outside without getting stung. They will also chase you a considerable distance if they get the notion that you intend harm to the hive. Good luck and be careful.

I went to the local pet shop today and said I wanted to buy a wasp. The miserable sod behind the counter said they didn't sell pet wasps. "What are you talking about" I retorted, "You've got one in the window"

Severed, I'd definitely call someone to check into this. At first, I thought as Guitarhacker mentioned...yellow jackets. However, you NEVER see them at night. There is a chance here you maybe have had a bout with some killer bees here and luckily, the fan noise was more important that you were to them. They are very aggressive, and can be seen all times of the day and night. The thing that makes me think it may have been them is because noise will trigger them. Noise and even certain colors can set them off. The thing that makes me think it may NOT be them is, when you kill one, they release a toxin of sorts into the air as an alarm that "the hive is in trouble" and they will attack you like the attack on Pearl Harbor. I had a friend that survived an attack from them. He and his buddy were out in a boat fishing. His buddy saw a bee on his jacket and went to brush it away, and he killed it. When he killed it, the bee released that stuff warning that the hive was in trouble and they had hundreds of them all over the place. They both jumped out of the boat (thankfully they weren't too far from shore) and the bees dive bombed them even while in the water. My friend escaped with 50+ bee stings and survived. His friend was killed unfortunately. Whatever your case, I'd call someone to check out what you have going on there. The fan noise thing as well as them being out at night, scares me. The fact that nothing happened to you when you killed a few is a good sign...but you just never know with these things. It wouldn't hurt to call someone to have it checked out because if they are African Killers, this is something you want to get rid of asap.

That is one very good reason not to kill a bee with out considering the ramifications.

As of now, they aren't present. I'll check the wall tomorrow (Just got home from graduation, i have just graduated from high school ) @Danni And by the way, the fan was OFF, so it wasn't the noise. As if they were looking for a new place to stay in, while the others were attacking our light bulbs, as if they were ramming them repeatedly. And they were as big as the disgusting-type-flies (The one that's really FULL, the kings of crap.). I hope they are not africanized, that's what my father alerted me about too.

Just graduated high school? Well, as long as you're not like 25 or older, congratulations! (Though the thought that your father is probably younger than me is annoying. ;-) Africanized bees will give you ONE warning before going all kamakazi on you. They will run into you head-first. If that ever happens turn around 180 degrees and GET OUT OF THERE FAST!

Graduation congratulations! I did that once. It didn't take. Africanized bees probably haven't made it to the Philipines, yet. They are smaller than your average European honey bees.

My cat brought a live gopher into my studio once. I killed it with a drum stick. Gophers are real bad here and will destroy your yard.

Yeah, they tell me cats do that when they want to give you a present. Now if they catch a mole (which does the same to your yard as the gopher) it's one thing, but when they bring in a cute squirrel or beautiful bird it's a bit tougher to take...
