An Introduction, when new isn't really new

Hello.

According to the site stats, I joined this community last week, just after I purchased Sonar X1.

The reality is, I've been a Cakewalk user for a very long time.
I pulled out some old materials and found the brochure that introduced me to the product.
http://home.comcast.net/~eddyseals/pix/CWbroch.pdf

I didn't buy on that initial visit but I did get it just a few weeks later. I have a 2.0 (DOS) manual and various materials from upgrades through the years. I didn't upgrade with every revision, my upgrades followed my hardware upgrades.

Anyway, I look forward to figuring out Sonar X1 with the rest of you.

Godspeed,
Eddy

Welcome Eddy. I'm an Ed too (or am I?).

If we had an Edd here we'd be like Cartoon Network's show "Ed, Edd & Eddy".

I've still got him beat - I started with Cakewalk v1.0 back in the 80's (and even talked with the man - Greg Hendershott - himself a couple of times to discuss bugs).  Still waiting for a beta-tester to come in here and trump me.

    Neener, neener, neener!

(Don't worry, you'll find we're all still kids here in Coffee House.  )

Craig, ya got me beat... I was a Cake user when it was still called Cakewalk and a phone call to tech support actually got you a real live person to help you sort it out.

My first version was CW8P... still have the manual, box, &  floppys but it only runs on W95....

    Welcome Eddy!

When I was in elementary school, we had a "fair day" and I participated in cakewalk. I didn't win though. I did get a goldfish on the ring toss. My mom made me dump it in the creek.

Welcome!  I've been eating cake since I was very young.  I especially like cake with lots of frosting.  The more frosting, the better.

Hope that information helps you with your DAW!

IIRC, there was a forum software problem in 2003 which dumped all our records, which is why dates (and post counts (not that anyone cares)) aren't always accurate.  Welcome.  Hope you have a rain coat...

Don't worry, though.  There are still forum software problems in 2313 2791 2112 2011.  Just ask Mike.

I was a stubborn old-school hardware (tape/reel) kinda guy for decades, love the old mixers, reels and such.   My first intimate session with Sonar started at version 4, but I was surprised at how easy it was to make that transition.

(just had a nightmarish thought).... if I had started with something else such as; Cubase?, I would probably still be that stubborn old-school reel-to-reel kinda of guy LOL!!

I love hearing stories from you "old-school" guys!  I was always wanting to try whatever was the latest and greatest (which, needless to say, helped create some of those wonderful 10-bit resolution masterpieces of 80's New Wave).

Is it true that back in the day you only had 9 tones to work with?
(Or is Bapu only pulling my leg?)

    Tones matter not to Bapu.

I can't tell them apart. They all taste like chicken sound like Am to me.

I hate Chrome for that. You have to manually strike out (even when you mod or reply to a post).
