How many previous Sonar versions do I need to keep on my machine?

When I installed Sonar 8.5, it was necessary to keep Sonar 8.0 installed also. It was impossible to install 8.5 without 8.0  installed, and it was impossible to uninstall 8.0 after installing 8.5 without adversely affecting 8.5, if I recall.

Now I'm ready to install X1. Do I have to keep 8.0 and 8.5 as well as X1?

Can anyone point me to an install procedure for removing prior versions (without losing plugins) and still being able to install the downloadable X1 version I purchased?

On the other hand, I'm reading that there are problems with backward compatibility with X1 opening 8.5 projects.

What approaches are others taking?

From my experience, old versions really don't take up much room, so no reason to remove them. I leave all my copies in place until I format my drive (or get a new system), then I only go back to the previous version (in this case it would be, 8.5 & X1).

You may want to take note of the plugins that come with various versions, but no longer exist. For instance, the Timeworks plugins, or the DR-008, etc.... Those can all be installed from a custom install of each version. You don't have to install the software, just the plugins from that disk set.

I just glanced at my folders, and I still have 8 & 8.5 installed along with X1. Those two programs (8 & 8.5) consume a total of 136 meg of disk space. Removing them would surely be more of a pain (possibly a nightmare) than simply losing 136 meg of space.

Just my 2 cents, I'm sure others will have their opinions as well

You have to have sonar 1 through sonar 8.5 installed or else sonar x1 wont run and your computer and will  catch fire resulting in radiation exposer which then will add to the problems in Japan and Libya which will no doubt cause the third world war which will be labeled in history books as "The Greatest War"

Do you rally want this on your shoulders?

just make sure all versions are installed and you'll be fine
