Open and closed hat behavior

I put in the correct note for the closed hat and everything was fine, but then I couldn't get the open hat to sound. I couldn't find it, either by dragging a MIDI note around or inserting the note shown in the mapping. I checked I was in the correct clef to make sure, checked the note properties to be sure but it still wouldn't sound.

After throwing a tantrum, I came back to the machine and that same note that sounded the closed hat now sounds the open hat! And I can't make the closed one sound.

I must have an incorrect setting somewhere but the canned grooves sound fine. Closed shuts down the open as it should. Copy that groove into my MIDI track and that functionality doesn't work anymore - baffled.

Anyone?

Thanks - rev

    Interesting. Unfortunately I don't have a solution.

Closed hat cuts the playback of open hat, so obviously somehow these two have gotten mangled.
What drum software are you using. Is there a possibility the samples have somehow gotten mixed in the VST? Have you edited them or created a drumkit of your own?

I can't say I found the solution for certain but I think it was something to do with the way I was using a variety of MIDI tracks and possibly their original mapping.

Unknown - but it doesn't happen on new files and I got through the one I was working on.

    Thanks.

Could be this. I had it bite me earlier this week when re-opening a project I hadn't worked in a while...

MIDI Prepare Buffer Size and Automation

The information in this article applies to:

    • SONAR 8.5
    • SONAR 8
    • SONAR 7
    • SONAR 6
    • SONAR 5
    • SONAR 4
    • SONAR Home Studio (All Versions)
If your project contains several track/clip automation envelopes, setting your MIDI Playback buffer size too low (in Options-Global-MIDI) can cause audio to crackle if your audio latency is also set very low. This problem will be somewhat worse if you enable multiprocessing in the audio engine. To minimize or eliminate these crackles, please be sure to keep your MIDI playback buffers at or above the default setting 500 msec

    Peace,

    Tunes
