Do it in smaller sections/clips and in the long run you'll avoid some headaches. Edit a section, bounce, edit next section.
It's the same with the other pitch correctors, too. It's best to edit in portions so small, that you can bounce before closing the project, so you don't need to leave an active pitch corrector in the project. It may cause problems when you come back to the project.
I assume the standalone versions are a little more tolerating (????).
I'm not an expert, but obviously the way these VSTs operate is so complex that the risk of hiccups is much, much bigger than in doing more simple edits.
