Auto-Tune EFX vs. V-vocal

I note that this is the last day for the Cakewalk offer of Auto-Tune EFX for $79.  On my last vocal, I used V-vocal in Sonal 8.5. for pitch correction.  Can anyone say how Auto-Tune compares with V-vocal?  Is it worth getting?  Are you less likely to get artifacts?

I tried the demo version of Melodyne Editor, but could not make it work correctly with my XP Pro system within Sonar.  (They recommend Windows 7.)  Thanks.

I don't use Melodyne, but Im sure there are many users on here who run it with total success with Windows XP. Maybe it's a configuration problem.

Also, I use V-Vocal with great success and minimal to zero artifacts, but you do have to be careful with it.

It really needs a clean, mono audio file to work with, preferably split up into smaller clips.

Thanks for response but I'm not sure what this means.  If using it on a vocal track, the way I understand is to apply V-vocal on the clip of that track, which would be the whole clip.  Is it a problem to do it this most obvious way?

Do it in smaller sections/clips and in the long run you'll avoid some headaches. Edit a section, bounce, edit next section.

It's the same with the other pitch correctors, too. It's best to edit in portions so small, that you can bounce before closing the project, so you don't need to leave an active pitch corrector in the project. It may cause problems when you come back to the project.

I assume the standalone versions are  a little more tolerating (????).

I'm not an expert, but obviously the way these VSTs operate is so complex that the risk of hiccups is much, much bigger than in doing more simple edits.

    I'm lucky.

I have songs written in 8.5.3 which containg over 100, unbounced, live V-Vocal clips, and my DAW simply says "is that all you've got?"

But the general concensus is you'll get better results and more stability simply from bouncing each clip down when you're happy with the result.

You'll not lose a thing because the original clip will still be in a separate layer, just muted so you don't hear it.

I'm a melodyne user at home and the studio. At home I'm running windows XP 32 bit abd I have perfect performance with melodyne editor.

p.s auto tune and v-vocal are a joke compared to melodyne!

    sincerely,
