Pro Channel EQ Will Not Come On

There are times when I try to use the Pro Channel and the featured EQ section will not ignite.  I have tried to use the ctrl-click to make sure the Sonitius eq is not in effect but the button refuses to light up.  Also, any controls on the EQ fail to light up.  Strangely, the activity light does show some input is trying to work.  What is strange is that on some busses, etc. it works fine, on others not at all.  BTW the other effects (COMPRESSION AND TUBE SAT)  do work just fine.

Suggestions?

That seems about right for a true "Vintage" emulation.

I've seen poorly maintained hardware do that too.

I saw this on a bus yesterday as I was mixing.  It was a project that I had recorded in an earlier version of Sonar.  After I used the ctrl+click trick it was acting just like you describe.

So, I decided to delete the old bus and put in a fresh one from within X1.

    It worked correctly then.

I haven't tried to recreate it...but it could be a recurring bug.

    +1 to this issue.

I also found the same solution by recreating a new bus. I think it was bus 3 where the EQ didn't work. It was acting as though there was an automation control that was disabling it. Very strange. At least the workaround seems fine.

If I could, a reveiew of the 'Ctrl+Click Trick'.
I have, so far held off on the B update as I just recorded a bunch of live drums last weekend and expected to be tracking guitars this weekend and didn't want any 'surprises' delaying my clients progress.
I got a call today canceling the session due to a work schedual change and now have some time.

Now that I have some time, I'm dying to try out the 'B'.

I haven't had a lot of trouble in X1A (A couple of crashes and Audio Snap not working, but I think AS is fixed now.) and even PC not working corrctly isn't a show stopper for me, I have UA plugins that have done what PC does so I can get around it, I don't NEED it. BUT, the not opening projects from X1A thing scares the bejesus out of me.
    So...
As I understand it, the 'Ctrl + Click Trick is...

You open the song in safe mode by Ctrl Clicking the project and answer yes to the questions, save, close and reopen. Is that correct?

I've been importing and mixing songs with live drums all day today that were recorded two weeks ago in Sonar 5.

    Opening in X1 just fine.

Again...the only problem I've run into is that on at least one of the busses, the previously applied EQ was stopping me from activating the ProChannel EQ. Even the ctrl/click trick wouldn't activate the ProChannel EQ.

All I had to do was create a new bus in X1 and redirect my tracks to the bus.  Then...the ProChannel EQ was working fine.

I hate to speak too soon....because I've only got about 10 hours on X1b...but I've got 4 killer mixes off of it last night and today.  No crashes...no hangs....cpu usage is very low.

    I'm running X1 on XP 32bit, btw.

    Best of luck.

I'm assuming this bug is only when bringing in old projects.  I'm hoping this is not a problem with projects created in X1.

    We'll find out tomorrow....

there is a confirmed problem with Prochannel not remember ing saved states of eq and in some cases not displaying the eq plot or meter activity in the compression module. also issue  with the real versus shown Pre/post setting

OK, so I took the plunge tonight and moved to the 'B'. I was holding off as I was suppoed to be tracking guitars for the projects started last weekend but, because of a work conflict, the client had to cancel this weekend. That gave me the time so, even if I had to reinstall from scratch (Not something I wanted to do but if I had to, I COULD do it) but I was still hesitant hearing about projects even created in X1a not functioning in X1b had me scared. Yet some users weren't having any (or minor) problems at all. So I went for it.
I'm happy to report, post patch, no problems opening ANY of the X1a projects and I've even opend a Sonar 8 (patched) project with no problems at all. Thanks, Charlie, BTW, but I haven't had to use the safe mode. I've made several mix changes to that song, closed it, opened it, closed down X1b and opened it again, no problems. Now, I haven't used PC yet in it so I'll let ya know how that goes, but I don't really NEED Pro Channel as I have the UAD plug-ins so, if it starts acting' nutty, I can work around it.
Still, I hope CW makes a patch very soon as Noel has confirmed that Pro Channel isn't working correctly for some users. I haven't tried it yet in these projects. I'm just glad that the projects are opening up and playing and, like FastBikerBoy said in another thread, I was one of the users that X1a was working, pretty much, for me and was REALLY afraid that the 'B' would hose me. It didn't and I seem to have dodged a bullet....again.
I'm almost ready to drink the Kool-Aid and head to the happy thread, lol.

I had this issue yesterday for the first time after installing X1b, but it seems to be random, inserted a bus but the pro channel just wouldn't work comp, eq sat, nothing, the only way to get to to to work was to load a preset and go from there. I also had a few crashes since X1b that didn't occur in X1a!

Dang.   Same thing happened to me this morning (sans the crashes).   My normal nature is to be optimistic....but now.....

One of the reasons I purchased the Producer edition of X1 was the inclusion of Pro Channel - it is a prime feature of this product.  Being that it is a major feature it, above all other features, should be flawless.

I'd have to agree with that AND that's why I think (Jsut my opinion) that CW will release another patch. I mean, they can't let their horn tutin' feature remain crippled for long, can they?

Re:Pro Channel EQ Will Not Come On 2011/03/27 10:15:46 (permalink)

Last December people became bitterly angry with me when I stated that Pro Channel was cripple ware.

    People demanded explanations from me.

People seemed to think I was insulting their intelligence.

I just kept scratching my head... wondering how long what I thought seemed obvious would become apparent.

The concept of "plug ins" is an invention by geniuses who predicted that some companies can successfully focus on core product while other enterprises can provide enhancements via plug in architecture.

A company like Cakewalk has no business trying to act like it's smarter than the geniuses that created the concept of plug ins.

Plug ins work wonders for many soft ware categories... they just do.

EFX Chains was a great addition... even if they already existed for years in Cakewalk products via drag and drop from bin to bin, or the use of track and project templates.

FX Chains do have the advantage that they focus a template idea on the FX chain and so may seem a little easier to think about and use. That's good.

    Pro Channel isn't.

Maybe Cakewalk should just abandon ProChannel as it has done with many of it's in house plug ins and simply move on.

    best regards,
    mike
