moving projects from one PC to another?
I've got a new machine with X1 installed. I'd like to move my projects from the old machine to the new. These project folders are huge...waaaay to big for a memory stick. Anyone had to do this? How did you move your projects? Thank you.

Networked machines can access each others hard drives. You have to set that up in 'networks' depending on your OS then just drag files from one machine to the other.

I think I'll probably just buy a box of DVDs. The network thing is probably over my head and the cost of drives for a one time activity seems a bit much. Again, thanks Larry. Have a great day.

punkin, I understand how some of the techniques can be a bit intimidating but networking a couple of computers is pretty easy. It will take some effort but there are thousands of threads on the internet on how to do it. How big are your projects? Biggest one? You can get a 16 gigabyte flash drive for about $30 and use for a ton of different things. DVD's are only 4.7 Gigs. A 500 gig external USB Hard drive will set you back only $59 and you can use for all kinds of stuff after purchase. ( I can't BELIEVE how cheap storage is these days) http://www.tigerdirect.co...5255665&CatId=2424

I see your point...DVD's would take forever. Thanks for the perspective...an external drive sounds pretty tasty at this point. I suppose it would be nice to have around. Now that I'm thinking of it. I've got more than just Cakewalk projects to move off the old machine. $60 dollars for a drive of that size really is a bargain. Thanks! I'm off to do a little shopping.

Right click your project folder(s) and select share. Then when you go to Windows Explorer on the other machine, you should see those folders in the Network section.

There is no way dvds are cheaper oreasy then anexternal drive, and defenitly not cheaper/easy then two networked machines...

Thanks Everyone... Here's what I did. I purchased a USB external hard drive yesterday and copied all the files in the Cakewalk Projects folder and dumped them into the same folder on the new machine. The USB drive truly is the way to go by the way. All the audio seems to be there. However, when I play back the projects (on the new machine in X1) the display acts weird. The waveform doesn't scroll accross anymore. The cursor only goes to the edge of the viewable/displayed waveform then stops...the music still plays on but the cursor stops at the edge of the screen. Any thoughts?

I think I found the setting you're referring to...it's turned off. I've also found that with my Mackie MCU controller, the jog/shuttle wheel won't allow me to scroll manually past the visible screen either. Is it really supposed to be that easy when transferring files from one machine to the other? All I did was copy the project folders from the old and dump them into the new. Again, thanks a bunch for the replies everyone.

Oops...got it! Looks like all it wanted was for me to reboot the PC after moving all the files over. Again, thanks to everyone for the replies. Very helpful indeed.
