X1 Loses Midi Bank and Patch Information

I am trying to set up a template for Midi Orchestration using my external synth. I save it as a template. When I create a new project from the template I have to reselect the patch names. If I don't the track just plays the default patch for the synth's channel. Has anyone else had this experience?

Make sure you're saving as a CWP and not a MID file. You are using an INS file for the external synth, right?
