So, What does the X mean?

Is it part of the version number? As in version 10?

And X1 is really version 11 of the Sonar series?

Is it part of the name, as in Sonar X?

     So this is Sonar X version 1, and then we will get versions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 8.5,...

Is this cuz no one could figger how to distinguish Sonar DAW 1.0 from Sonar DAW 2.0?

Or is it a placeholder?  As in: X1, Y2, Z3,...

Just wonderin'

I'm not sure how they meant it, but 8.5 was released as if it was 9, so X=10 is probably where it originated... The rest? Marketing....

But for me it's X-this version out! Here's hoping the future is better than the present which is worse than the past.... (for me)

    Experimental apparently.

I'm beginning to think is a sick little Roland experiment on us.

If Cakewalk did mean for X to be 10, then surely they'd use XI for the new version and not X1 yes?

They way it has been performing one could think it meant the X-files, or the forbidden zone or any dark and foreboding place.

The X represents all the colourful language used by those having problems with the software:

    "This software keeps FXXXing up!"

"When is the next FXXXXING patch coming out?"

"Why did I buy this piece of SXXT?"

    Etc...

Of course, I have had no issue with Sonar X1 - except that flaming metronome turning itself on randomly but that seems to have stopped now.
