When I change tempo can I prevent the start times of the clips from moving?

How can I lock clips to absolute time? I tried using the lock checkbox under clip properties. When I change the tempo of the song using the tempo view the start times of the clips move and when you play them there are pauses in between clips that were introduced by the change in tempo and the clips are no longer in sync with one another.

The only way I know how to do it is to make sure all clips have a start time of 1:00:000 and bounce any clips on the same track together so all you have is long clips spanning from 1:00:000 to the end. I think there's a simpler quicker way of doing this.

Any suggestions?

Right click on clip, click Clip Properties, check Stretch To Projet Tempo.

I spoke to soon. This doesn't solve the problem. If I record a vocal to an audio track and punch in the vocal a few times so where that track has some different start times and change each clip to stretch to project tempo and then change to a slower tempo, the vocal and audio track do stay in sync with the start times, but they slow down. I want them to stay at the same tempo and be totally unaffected by the tempo change as far as start times and pitch.

    Any ideas?

If you want them to stay at the same tempo...
You said "Change each clip to stretch to project tempo". That is the opposite of what you want. You don't want them to stretch.

Right, that was Peter J's suggestion. There may not be an easy way to do this other than the workaround I mentioned.

SONAR 8.5 Reference Guide.pdf p. 307 may address your question.

I found the solution on that page.

for every clip you want to not be affected by tempo changes
    dbl click to open properties
    general TAB
time base - CHOOSE absolute (SMPTE) not Musical (M B T)
    Then change tempo
