Question with cutting and pasting

Hello, wondering if someone might know the easy answer to this one...
In one song I put together I was able to cut and paste quite easily bars of music, simply by clicking on the ruler at the top in track view, I could make cuts right on the exact number, for example 1-4 would be a perfect seemless loop in guitar, drums, anything really.  It was great for taking one good chorus and pasting it into where it needed to repeat.  Now in a new tune I cannot do this, it's always off...
Is this just simply because my tempo in the first tune worked out perfectly to line up with the ruler, as if to match it beatwise?  I think it was a 160 tempo...maybe that's why?  Now I am working with a 144 tempo and it's all over the place.  Anyway, is there a way to know where to make scissor cuts at exact points of reference without having to eye it up and magnify all the time?  Or is this ruler simply set time, which I think it is.... but I could be off here...
thanks!

Sounds like you need to enable and set the Snap to grid. IIRC it's off as a default when you start new project. Tempo has absolutely nothing to do with it.

yep, definately the snap to grid needs to be activated. I'm wondering how you were so confident splitting, cutting and pasting without snap to grid activated? how were you so sure that you were pasting at the correct time? and to my experience when you cut and paste clips, even miliseconds can ruin everything!

    sincerely,

If you built the song to the project tempo, yeah the markers line up. Otherwise..

The "n" key in the project view toggles Snap to Grid on and off...

    Peace,

I don't understand, If you set a tempo, the ruler will be set to that tempo. The ruler does not look any different at 144 than it would have at 160 if the tempo is set in the dialog box. Time just goes by at a different rate.
If the song was not played to a click track then snap to grid will not help either. To be able to do any editing your song must start out with a set tempo or tempo map, and then all music played to that tempo.

Since I use a lot of band in a box wavs, I pop them in not thinking about tempo..... so now I am stuck with 120 default, but my files are like 121 for this one tune.  Hmmmm, darn, oh well.  Maybe next tune I can make it right, I am not using midi at the moment so I guess it doesn't matter a whole lot.  I don't think the project tempo has an affect on imported wavs right?  Hmmmm?
    Thanks
