Fabfilter Total Bundle or EWQL Complete Composer?

Hi all,

Going to be getting a sizeable tax return soon. Anyways I'm planning on spending less than half of it on my studio, I think I'm fairly set for hardware atm so here's what I was considering: I was looking at a EWQL Composer package that comes on a 1TB HDD, with like the Symphony Orchestra Platinum, RA, Silk, Storm Drum 2 and Goliath I think it was...

Anyways, I've got GPO 4, Komplete 7, Kore 2 and IK Total Workstation 2 and a number of expansion packs for tons of different things... anyways,

The diversity and quality of the sounds of the EWQL packages definitely draws me, I've heard some great compositions with the EWQL packages... I would have to get an iLok, but I suppose I would have to anyways at some point if I want to get into the nicer orchestral sample libraries.

I've also looked at the VSL special editions..

And I've also been eyeballing the Fabfilter stuff, particularly the Pro C, Q and L, Timeless 2, Volcano 2, and Twin 2....

I really like the look of their interfaces, and I don't really have a dedicated delay plugin besides something like the Sonitus delay, but the options in Timeless 2 look incredible! I think a dedicated filter plugin would be really cool tool and just the GUI of their plugins looks great!

Anyways, I could see myself owning both an EWQL package and the Fabfilter stuff eventually, but I'm trying to decide right now what would be better...

I've been going in the direction of doing work for local businesses, (jingles etc.) and I get the odd client wanting to record. Personally I would like to get into composing all kinds of music eventually (like several genre's) Well... that's all I'll say for now,

Opinions?

It looks like you're pretty well covered for instrument sounds.  I'd go for the Fabfilter package...I've got most of them and they are indeed...FAB!!!

    +1 to Fabfilter.

You've got lots of great sounds with GPO, Komplete 7, and IK Workstation.

The Fabfilter interfaces are *killer*.....they are my absolute favorites in the softsynth world.  I have Timeless, Twin, One, and Volcano.  I've heard nothing but raves about Pro-C and the new limiter (Pro-L?).

Fabfilter seems to have much better product support than East West.

Plus, you can re-sell Fabfilter products (with a modest transfer fee).  You may not be able to see the EW stuff.

I suspect that once you get the Fabfilter products, you won't want to sell then anyway.

Can't go wrong with FabFilter products. I'm patiently waiting for them to add a multiband compressor to their product line. I'd buy it without even hearing it first. The Pro-L limiter is really, really good.

That said, you'll probably have more fun with the EWQL Composer bundle. You'll spend the rest of your life exploring all the possibilities. Personally, the dongle would be a showstopper for me, but if that doesn't bother you the expanded musical palette of such a huge sample library would further your jingle aspirations much more than any effects.

Right now I'm leaning towards grabbing Fabfilter's Total Bundle and Garritan World Instruments...

Anyone have any experience with that? Looks pretty decent on the website on the website,

Or does anyone know of a good library with ethnic type instruments... looking for something more than the Kontakt and SampleTank factory libraries, I have the North India expansion by NI for Kore 2.

Have you heard EastWest's [/link][link=http://www.soundsonline.com/Silk]Silk? Too pricey for me, and there's that damn dongle issue, but it sure sounds great.

I've looked at it yes... and I don't have a dongle, and I don't really want to get one either...

But if I ever want to get something like the EWQL stuff or VSL I suppose I will have to... I just went through all the song demos on Garritan World Instruments... I think they're definitely useable I wouldn't rate it stellar or anything but I figure if I can do some really good stuff on it, then it would justify getting a more expensive library down the road. I haven't got the credit card out yet, but I'm definitely thinking of going with the Fabfilter Total bundle and Garritan World Instruments at this point

As for World libraries, I've heard some mixed reviews on the Garritan one.  I covers a LOT of instruments, but since the total number of GB is small (on a per instrument basis), it may not have the depth you want.  I don't own it, so I can't comment on it.

Here are a couple of others you can check out:

Ethno World 5:  Well regarded library with relatively deep sampling.  It comes in an instruments version and a version focusing on choirs and voices (you can click on that version in the link below).  I got a "best of Ethno 4" (for $99) around Christmas time, which was a very large library of instruments.  A few are just o.k., but most are outstanding.  There's some good Kontakt scripting as well which makes it easy to add effects, tuning variations, etc.    Worth a look (but obviously more expensive than Garritan).

    Ethno World 5

Sonokinetic Libraries:  If you have specific tastes, Sonokinetic has some awesome looking libraries.   Click on Ethnic in the menu at the link below.  I've heard good things about the libraries.

    Sonokinetic

Impact Soundworks:  Has very detailed and fantastic sounding Japanese Instruments.  I don't own the Japanese instruments, but I own Impact Steel from them and it's excellent.

    Impact Soundworks' Koto Nation

Precisionsound Libraries:  Lots of nice sized ethnic instruments....they occasionally have 50% off sales (probably one will be in summer).  Worth a look if you have specific instruments in mind.

    Just some more options!
