Can't print from staff view Music Creator 5
The print and print preview menu items are greyed out in staff view. The README file says Can't Print if Staff View is Floating (Music Creator 5 Only) It is not possible to print the Staff view if the Staff view is float-enabled. If necessary, temporarily disable floating if you need to print from the Staff view. I cannot find anything in the online help about how to disable floating. I have searched throught the forum and found similiar problems but those solutions do not work. The FAQ I found http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/kb/reader.aspx/2007012956 says You can disable tabbing by going to the View menu and un-checking “Enable Tabbing For Open Views”. This does not exist. There is no View menu. There is a Views but there is no option with this name. The second thing it shows is under the staff icon in the upper left in addition to Move Restore, Minimize, etc. there should be Disable Floating and Enable Tabbed options. These options do not exist. Lock Contents is the only additional option and it is greyed out. Printing from Lyrics and Even List work fine. The OS is Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit. So how do I print a staff? Thanks

click on FILE on the top tool bar.....expand the drop down box if it isn't already expanded....at the VERY BOTTOM...... I mean on the bottom of the box..... BELOW the word EXIT, there is a gray bar...and on it, at the right side you will see 3 triangles.... when your mouse is on them another box opens with the PRINT options.... The staff view should be open and on the screen when you do this. they have the Staff print well hidden..... but MC was not designed to do printing.....there are better programs for printing midi files on staff

Thank youi for replying but I was able to find the print menu items. The problem is that they are greyed out and none of the solutions I have read on the forum work for the Music Creator 5.05. The options the solutions say to check or uncheck just do not exist. So I am still stuck.

if you do what I suggested... be sure the track is selected and the staff view is showing.... then do what I indicated. It should work. If they are greyed out, you didn't follow the instructions and you don't have something properly selected.

I have MC3 and now that I've gone to Vista, I can't print. Never had any trouble under XP. None of the above work for MC3. The arrows under "EXIT" are NOT there. I considered upgrading when I went to VISTA but got the impression I would lose "Sound Canvas".

Just leave MC 3 installed.

Thanks for the info on VSC. Any more ideas on the printing? I think that it is weird that I can go to the key bindings and bind a key to "print preview" like "alt Q" and "alt Q" shows up on the file menu as a shortcut, but is greyed out. Any keys I could add to the registry under "staff view" maybe?

Hap.... hummm.... nope. In short, MC is designed to record music, not really to print it. They added that so you could do basic printing of midi notes. Other programs on the market that are designed to do that thing specifically..... print music notation, will do a much better job of it.

it's possible that this is a compatibility problem with MC3 and vista. MC3 was out long before vista was and it wasn't designed to work with vista.

Problem solved for MC3 in Vista--had to turn off UAC then run MC ONE TIME and try to print the staff view and voila it is no longer grayed out--even after turning UAC back on.
