EWQL Play
Anyone else have trouble with the Play VSTi interface not showing up, or only partially showing up? (X1b)

[size=3 font="times new roman"]When I first instantiate Play, the interface is truncated. If I save the piece, close Sonar and reopen, then it displays properly.

Like Bill51, I'm having difficulties with EWQL Play; and I must admit I'm new to all of this DAW stuff, so please have patience with me. When I first installed MOR, and copied the play_VST_x64.dll to the Sonar X1 Producer vstiplugins folder, I was able to successfully scan and detect the Play Engine. And, once only, I was able to bring up the MOR GUI in a truncated manor as Bill51 mentioned above. However, I have never been able to bring it up again, that is, the dialog box is blank. The Synth Rack shows the PLAY VSTi, but as I mentioned above, no GUI is present in the dialog box that pops-up. I've entered some quick notes for the Play track, but no sound is produced, I suspect, because no instrument (voice) patch has been loaded in the Play Engine. I did run into the "1721" error, and "this version of windows does not support this command", but the standalone application works fine. So the ten dollar question is... What am I doing wrong? It appears that most of the members here are not having any difficulties with this VSTi. Is there an environmental variable that needs to be set in X1? And a general question, not having gotten this far yet, when the GUI is displayed can you select patches and voices like the other VSTs that come with Sonar Producer X1? Thank you for your time, and help

Do you have your play updated to version 2.1.2(click on main menu and then About Play)? If not then get the update and see if that helps. What you are describing sounds like some of the problems that occurred regularly prior to some updates. For the incorrect version problem are you sure you have the correct version downloaded? There are both 32bit and 64bit downloads available which is based on your Windows operating system, not the version of X1 you are using. If you are running X1 in 32 bit but have Vista or Windows 7 64bit operating system you still down load the 64bit play engine update. From what I recall prior to the update with the GUI going blank just close the interface and then click on it again in the browser(or track header) to bring it back up again and it should be there as normal again

Hi Lorneyb2, I checked the player version, and I do have the latest 2.1.2 (I am also running Win 7, 64-bit, 8GB Ram, AMD Phenom Quad-core 3.0 GHz). The MOR I installed is also 64-bit; and of course the stand-alone version seems to work just fine. While looking into your suggestion I discovered a "ministryofrock.dll" file under the hidden ProgramData/EastWest/Plugins folder, and placed a copy of it in the Cakewalk plugins folder and rescanned, but Sonar did not detect it, so it is evidently not meaningful to Sonar. The Cakewalk plugins seem to work fine, just not MOR and Gypsy... very strange

My play_vst_x64.dll plug in is located at C:\Program Files\Common Files\East West\Vstplugins. Maybe add the C:\Program Files\Common Files to your scan locations if it not there already. I actually have a number of programs that use that directory as the default install directory.

I added the path to the directory your tools are using, and rescanned, but that didn't seem to change the problem; Play can be inserted, but no GUI available to select instruments. I found the X-Ray mode and tried disabling that as I had problems with it in 8.5 with SD3, but that didn't make a difference either. Each time I click on the VSTi track icon I still get a blank dialog box. I also tried the Dimension Pro synth, and from that track I can click on the VSTi icon and the GUI pops up as you would expect. I also tried resetting the VSTi and rescanning, but that didn't seem to help either. I must have installed something wrong, or there is an environmental variable that is causing the heartburn. From the information you are sharing, I take it that you are able to click on your track Icons an the appropriate EWQL GUI pops up so that you can change the instruments and parameters... is that correct? During the initial install of MoR, I received the "1721" error because I forgot to disable the error reporting in Win 7; I did get the message that windows does not support this command, I clicked OK and the install continued, perhaps this is a contributor to the problem?

That may very well be the source of the problem but it may not be a bad idea to post on the EW forums to see if anyone there has any addition advice or has run into a similar problem.

Problem Solved ! As you suggested Lorneyb2, I contacted both Cakewalk and East West tech support to see if they could pipe-in with a suggestion or two. East West did not contact me yet, but Cakewalk did, and Identified several possible sources of the problem that I would not have thought of. They suggested looking at the DPI setting to make sure that it was set to the default of 96 DPI; which it was. They also suggested that I make sure that I had the latest drivers for the ATI Fire Pro graphics card I am using. I did check the website and installed the driver (dated this month)... low-and-behold, that solved the problem. I'm now able to see and manipulate the MoR GUI. Lauren S. and her team mates are pretty smart folks ! Lorneyb2 and Cakewalk Support Team, thank you so much for all of your suggestions as we walked through the problem together. It was very encouraging to me !!
