I love the sound of your electric guitar. One of the next guitars on my wish list is a semi hollow body. Love that sound.

You might consider bringing the keys up a bit.  They seem quite far back.

Tones and performances are great! Is it slower than the original? The tempo took me a minute to get used to, but I may not be remembering the original that well. Loved the lead licks - excellent stuff!!

Nice. I haven't heard the original, but I thought the tempo suited this mellow style well. Didn't fancy the sound of the drums, though. I'd try something with more room and more acoustic sounding.

Great job.   I heard only one problem between :15-:20.  Sounds like one bass note is holding (like a MIDI pedal) while another note is sounding.   Mix is really good, guitar playing, etc... 

You have a nice voice.   Not sure if you are a fan, but I hear some Marty Robbins tones in your vocals.    He had a number of pop hits around the same time RN was at his peak.  Really enjoyed your production.

I have heard both here and outside this forum that my version is slower, so I checked it out and sure enough.  I didn't listen to Ricky's version before I recorded this because I've known the tune intimately since I was a kid.  I guess I always felt this tune was more a reminiscing ballad as opposed to exuberant display of sexual prowess   It really is a lovely melody.

folkman - You've never heard the original?  Welcome to America, as you must have just moved here... from Mars.  Just kidding, but that is amazing that anyone is not familiar with Ricky's tunes.  I guessing that you must be fairly young.  I constantly amazed by some young guys that work for me.  They often have no idea who people like the Marx Brothers are or a multitude of things.  Man I'm on the far end of that generation gap.
 
I'm glad the consensus is that the vocals are OK.  They take a lot more effort than guitar playing, although I've been singing this song for close to 50 years.  Yet when I started recording it, I found it wasn't quite as easy as I anticipated, but far easier for me that most things.  Unlike playing a musical instrument, which is always won with hard work and practice, a good voice is at least in part, a gift.  (For which I was somewhat short-changed )

Very nicely done.  Clear production.  Unlike many here, I was NOT a Ricky fan but I loved Ozzie and Harriet!  :-)  I did like the tunes but not him so much, though I wish I was as talented vocally as Ricky.  Your voice does fit this well.

That guitar is a heavily modified Cort M-800.  It is a full hollow body, no center block like a 335.  While I have upgraded the pickups and electronics (although if you find an M-800, the stock electronics are very good.) I believe the full hollow body is largely responsible for the guitar's tone (which I love). 

I am and always have been a hollow body guitar fan, although most of the 36 guitars I've owned have been solid bodies, and a few semi-hollow bodies.  I have a large 18" bout hand-carved Campellone arch top on order, so I'm soon to be in hollow body heaven

The only price for full hollow bodies is feedback control.  Unlike semi-hollow bodies, fully hollow bodies will produce feedback issues at loud volumes.  However you can use f-hole plugs, which help greatly in live situations. Also, in this day and age you are likely to be mic'ing your amp through the sound system anyways, so you don't need as much volume as we did back in the 60s and 70s.  And for recording, the hollow body is no problem at all.

It seems like guys are either "hollow body guys" or they are not.  I'm an old guy now so I like old style guitars, but when I was 14 years old, big hollow bodies are the guitars I dreamed of.   They just have inherently great tone.

Those 335's are a bloody fortune! If I was going to spend $3000 on a guitar, I'd get my Martin DC-28E I've been dreaming about. I'm going to go with the guitar pictured below. It's an Epiphone Sheraton II (Left Handed). There's a lot of video demo's on Youtube of it and it has that sound I'm looking for. I called Sweetwater and they'll sell it to me for $680 including case. Basically they'll sell it to me at the right handed price, normally they charge about $50 more for lefty versions. I told the wife I want it for my 40th Birthday next month. I'm out of work right now and the idea wasn't received very well to say the least. I can't wait to hear it through my Mesa Dual Rectifier Tremoverb 2x12 Tube combo.

Radio

There are some great pickups out there from several makers.  Personally I don't like pickups wired hotter.  I prefer to get as accurate a tone from my guitar as I can, and get my heat from my tubes or from my pedals, but it's a matter of taste.  But, is also hard to argue with the sound of classic PAF pickups.  On the other hand, I also am a  big fan of P-90 single coils, but they do generate more noise.
