Using Sonar X1 and SessDrum3 in a laptop and a desktop -- file location issues
Hi all,
I am starting to use Sonar X1 in both a laptop and a desktop. The goal (of course) is to tweak projects when I'm not home but have the desktop's resources available when possible. I mostly do "in-the-box" composing and have used FLStudio for a long time -- including developing projects on both the laptop and desktop.
I'm starting to use Session Drummer 3 in order to lay down drum tracks with my own drum samples (as many threads recommend, especially for users familiar with FLStudio). I mostly want to "build my own kits" out of my own samples, rather than use the SD3 kits. However, I'm running into a problem when I build a kit on the laptop and move the project to the desktop (or vice versa) -- since the samples don't have the same path, SD3 can't find them. I know that I can re-insert wave files or manually edit the kit file every time I move the project, but both of these options are pretty tedious. I was hoping someone might have an alternative idea.
Is it possible to save a Sonar project in a manner that saves the sample contant -- the way a bundle save will include audio? Alternately, is it possible to export copies of the samples used by SD3 into a single folder?
Does anyone else work on a single Sonar project on two separate computers, and do you have any tips for dealing with these kinds of issues? I expect I would have similar problems with Dimension Pro, etc. -- although I don't expect to use those programs with my own samples, and the programs seem pretty smart about finding their presets on either machine.
As a comparison, FLStudio has some pretty straightforward solutions to this sort of problem -- it has a number of features for exporting the samples used in a project, searching in designated locations for missing samples, etc. If I can't find a good solution I will probably just plug FLStudio into Sonar in order to create drums, but I was hoping to be able to compose in Sonar alone.
