oddball mouse pointer behaviour

Can't wait for the abuse on this one.  Why sometimes is my normal mouse pointer (the little arrow on the screen) accompanied by a little circle with a line through when I mouse-over some clips, but not others?

Also, how come I can select some clipss by clicking on them, but some clips I have to click several times to select, and some clipss I can't seem to select at all until I get frustrated, then I seem to be able to select it?

There is a difference between clicking on the lower half vs. the upper half. Lower half for selecting the whole clip. The top half lets you sweep the clip to select just part of it, or sweep across several clips to select the same time range in all of them.

I don't recall anything about the circle/line cursor. Are some clips locked? Muted?

The circle you mention is like the "No Parking" traffic sign (in Europe??)and it follows the cursor when you move it, right?. It simply means that in the present location the mouse can't be used (dragging not possible because the clip position is locked or something similar). AFAIK The event mute sign is the same, but is attached to the clip in question.

Could it be the cases when you need several clicks occur on tracks with multiple layers?

the mute mouse icon is an arrow with a black box.  this is what I am dealing with.  I think it is audiosnap related but audiosnap radio box for this track is absent (like missing altogether).

That's audiosnap related by the looks of it. Do you have "Audio transients" selected in the track's edit filter? You don't have to have the Audiosnap dialogue box open, the smart tool will respond to the edit filter.

oh, just an fyi.  I've been using Cake since there was Cake, through Pro Audio, through 8.5.3.  I am having to relearn a bit, to say the least here, so pity is in order.

Hm, very strange. That mouse icon you posted is definitely the icon displayed by the smart tool when working on audio transients. If you haven't got the edit filter showing "Audio transients" you may well have found a bug.

Does it happen on all tracks or just some?

when I changed the clip filter back to 'clip' and used the move toolbar, I was able to select the clip, but when I attempted to drag it to track 2, sonar did the 'not responding' crash.

Note that Sonar in the above screenshot has already crashed.  Note that audiosnap has no radio box to turn it off or on, and audiosnap control (when I hit A) could not affect the transients as shown.

Maybe I need to bounce-to-clips any groove-clip I have so I can move it around like a normal clip?  If true, and it seems to work, then why didn't I have to do that it sonar 7 or 8 or 8.5?

That is strange. Your track one is showing audio transients in the waveform but the tracks edit filter is on "clips".

Having said that if you're saying that's a screenshot of a crash that may explain that anomaly.

I never used Audiosnap much in earlier versions but X1 seems to handle it slightly differently in that you don't have to call up the palette and do the detection thing. In X1 just select audio transients in the edit filter and they are there. The palette box doesn't have to show at all unless you want it to.

Personally i find it much quicker and easier to use but as I've said I never used it much more than once or twice in earlier versions.

I gave up trying to resolve this and deleted the entire track, inserted a new track and started over.  Problem solved.
