Home Studio 6/EastWest Symphonic Choirs VST

I have no problems with other 3rd party VSTs via Soft Synths (example: I use RealGuitar all the time), but this is driving me nuts...the choir wont show up in the list.

I go to Options>Global>VST Plugins: I see two entries related to the EastWest stuff (c:ewql choirs instruments, and c:ewql choirs samples).  I choose Scan VST folders, it appears to scan those two folders (I see all sorts of stuff flashing through about "basses", "sopranos", blah blah blah).

Whether I go Views>Synth Rack, or if I try Insert>Soft Synths, they don't show up in either one.

I've also tried Tools>Cakewalk Plugin Manager>Scan VST Instruments; same thing, I see it scanning the ewql stuff, but once again it's not a choice when I try to add that soft synth.

I've restarted Home Studio after doing the above, restarted the computer...totally lost.

Any idea?  In all likelihood it's something really obvious that I'm not understanding.   Thank you!!!

    Hi BrianE

HS needs to find the .dll file (ie. the driver file) for EWQL symphonic choirs to add it to the Soft Synths list. If you look at My Computer C: folders, you will find Symphonic ChoirsVST.dll in C:/EWQL Choirs/VSTPlugins. So from what you have said above, it would seem that HS is only scanning some of the sub folders to C:EWQL Choirs and not the one containing the .dll file.

The quick solution is to go to Tools / Cakewalk Plug-in Manager, click "Options" and then "Add" and then add C:/EWQL Choirs. That way, HS will scan the whole folder and all the sub folders and will then add the VST to your Soft Synth list.

    Best Regards

    No joy...

When I go to Options in PlugIn Manager, I don't have the file you mention, just the two folders that appear in the scan (I need to read the thread on how to add images here, sorry about just the text...) mentioned above.

So then to your thought I just did a search of all of my hard drives for all .dll files, nothing East/West related (out of 6k+ returns).  I see the one's for RealGuitar, some of the others that come stock with HomeStudio 6, and World Builder's (part of the ewql package).  Nothing EastWest, EWQL, etc; sorted in all sorts of ways to make sure.

Which leads me to believe the initial install of Play/Choirs/Wordbuilder didn't go right, but everything went smooth as silk, and I can run them in stand alone mode.  Don't know if that matters or not.

Went through some the EWQL documentation, steps on "making sure everything's working"; everything's great until the "add the softsynth in Cakewalk"; doesn't say what to do if it doesn't appear, haha...

Malcom, thank you for your help and patience.  I thought more about what you said and scoured EastWest support site.  The file you're referring to is this in their literature and my system: C:\Program Files\Common Files\East West\VST plugins\Play_VST.dll .

As you instructed I pointed to this in Tools>Plugin Manager, and it added it.  And I can select it in Soft Synths.  Woohoo!!

Haven't gotten it to work but I think that's more down to powering through my learning curve within the app.

    Thank you again!!!

    Hi BrianE

Good to hear it is all fixed now. Software programs seem to have a mind of their own when it comes to where they install and it has often driven me to the edge of madness trying to track down .dll and .ini files! I suspect we have different versions of EWQL SC which could account for why the .dll file was in a different place on your computer to mine.

Good luck with SC and Wordbuilder. I am sure you will have more success than I in making the choir sing lyrics. If you work out a way to make the choir sing Rock, please let me know!

    Best Regards
