It is called latency, and you need to use faster drivers  for the audio. The USB cord may not have fast enough driver capability.

Are you using MME drivers for MC5? If so what are the settings for the latency slider?

Does the USB cord have ASIO drivers? If not maybe google ASIO4All drivers on the net and install.

I'd Seize the day but i can't quite reach it!

Usually those USB cord things are not ideal for working with audio like you are trying to do.

You can experiment with the drivers as Rob suggests, but ultimately, plugging straight in to the computer's built in audio card would probably be  better, better still would be a dedicated audio/midi interface that uses ASIO drivers.

What OS are you running? If you have W7, be sure to run MC5 in the 32 bit mode. It has problems at 64bit.

Right. You will have terrible latency when using MME driver mode (the oldest, slowest, least efficient driver), and most of those USB guitar cords and USB microphones require the use of MME.
If you can return the thing where you got it from and exchange it for a USB audio interface with a guitar input and a mic input, you'll have a better recording experience.
Find any post by Beagle and click the link to his personal web site; he has a list of good audio interfaces there.

Edit: why do they put these keyboard keys so close together?

It seems there should be a giant banner on the top of this forum that screams out "LATENCY, WHAT IS IT AND HOW DOES IT AFFECT YOUR RECORDINGS?"

What makes you think people would read it before purchasing something like a "usb guitar cable"?

LOL! Ha, true. This does seem to be a HUGE topic. I also must admit that I fell into the latency trap, even though I had read most of these threads. It's just one of those things that you don't think will happen to you, and when it does, you are full of denial.

Options>Audio>slide the Latency slider to the 'Fast' side. Going too far will cause glitches, pops, static-sounding noise or outright audio dropout. Try to find a setting where you don't have a lot of latency and you don't hear any bad noises.
    I'm not optimistic, though.

I use a UA-G1 and it's not too bad. Best I can get is 10ms delay which is doable.  Once the track is completed, just "nudge" the audio up (to the left) just a hair and it will be perfect sync wise.
