How have YOU customized your X1 viewpane?

I've been away from music production in general for a couple of years. Last version of Sonar I used was v7.

Got myself X1 and ran it for the first time last night... holy crap, I'm so confused. Took me an hour just to find the synth rack.

I'm going to get used to it eventually, but in the meantime I was curious to ask everyone if there's anything from the default installation view that they keep closed. The window is divided in so many sections, I can't imagine they're all useful for every day use.

Did all of you simply get used to this plethora of knobs and sliders as they were first presented to you after installation, or have you customized the view? And if so, how?

Let's see if there's any kind of rough consensus on certain elements not being necessary for everyday use.

I upgraded from sonar 6 and i find this much easier and faster to use...I have the multidock maximized and use the "D" key to pull it up and drop it.  gets me to the console and piano roll much quicker. good for the way I work.  and of course there are the screensets...

I have screensets and custom layouts for the track controls set up:
    Console
    Tracking
    Add FX
    Mixing
    Recording

Each shows me something different  I'm still working out things about them as I use them.  I have them set up in a track template as 16 track live band.  I'm still learning the program as most are here.

If you REALLY want to learn it, go to www.groove3.com and get the X1 video's. They are very clear and excellent. I highly recommend them.

Hi, never mind customising one view what about the other 9?

Screensets are a huge leap forward from the old layouts, remembering just about everything. Open windows, which tracks are visible, edit filter settings, snap settings (*), etc, etc and all recalled instantly. Fantastic concept and very useful.

They could do with an easy way to save & load individual screensets rather than having to import all of them at once from an already open project though.

The hiding of the inspector & control bar plus instant collapse of the browser & multidock are great too.

    * To have different snap settings per screenset you need to add IncludeSnapInScreenset=1 in your ini file.

Now, that's a great thing to know! :)

Do you mind sharing which .ini (Cakewalk.ini, AUD.ini)? and under what section?

    Yeah sorry I should've said. It's the cakewalk.ini file.

Easiest way is through preferences->File->Initialization File.

Thanks to Zyler for the tip.

That's a great tip, FBB.  It fixes my biggest gripe about X1b.   Now, I need to write all of these little configuration changes I have made in a notebook, so that I can change them the next time I have to install Sonar.  Between the help on this board and Scott's book, I have made quite a few changes.

    Thanks
    Ron

The only thing I've done is get rid of the Edit Filter drop down in the track headers, and put the Console View in the dock.

Thanks, FBB, for the reply. It just so happens I discovered on my own to do it in Preferences, but thanks for the confirmation that I did it correctly, as I haven't tried separate Snap To settings in any screensets, yet.
