Dimension Pro: Getting Reinstall Error After Re-Installing!

Sonar 8 Producer:

I keep getting this error:  "Dimension Pro is not properly installed, Please resinstall.  Then "The following VST plug-in failed to load:  path to vstplugins\Dimension Pro\ DimensionPro.dll"

The plug-in is listed under VST instruments if that helps?

I did uninstall and re-install several times with no joy :(  Any ideas?

thx

I've just been through hell with Dim Pro 1.2 in Sonar 8.53.

I realize my software is not the same as yours but you should try this first, if you already haven't:  Right-click on your desktop Sonar icon and select "Run As Administrator".  When Sonar opens, insert an instance of Dim Pro into your project and see if it'll work.

If not, you may have to reinstall Sonar.  Ultimately, I solved my Dim Pro issues by reinstalling Sonar and then re-installing Dim Pro.  If it turns out you need to do this, I can direct you to some helpful directions for doing this, though I can't guarantee they'll work for your version of Sonar or Dim Pro.

    Hi, Bob,

Was Dim Pro working in your setup before?
What version of Sonar are you using?
    What version of Dim Pro?

You probably already know this, but before you take out all the registry files for Dim Pro, Cakewalk strongly suggests that you fully remove Dim Pro first using the uninstaller that should be in your start folder.

If you're running Dim Pro 1.5, there is no start folder so you need to reinstall v.1.2 and use it's uninstaller.  Then you can go ahead and get rid of the registry files.

All of what I said above applies to v.1.2 of Dim Pro.  I don't know about the LE version or any previous versions of Dim Pro but I assume they would be similar.

If you can't get it to work after trying everything, contact Cakewalk support.  They urge people having problems with Dim Pro to contact them.

    Good luck!

    Best regards,
    Bill

    Bill,

It's DP 1.2, Producer 8.3.  Worked fine and then started doing this. Windows Vista Premium.

What did you mean by start folder?

I did uninstall before doing the registry search and deleted tons of entries but still no-go!

    thx

Ah, Windows Vista Premium.  I never used Vista so there may be something about it that I don't understand.

Sorry, my fingers sometimes type faster than my brain can keep up with them.  I just meant to look in Start/Programs/Cakewalk/Dimension Pro for the 1.2 uninstaller.  If you had been using 1.5, there would be no uninstaller in Start/Programs/Cakewalk and you'd have to install 1.2 to get the uninstaller back. But you don't have to worry about that since you're using 1.2.

I did uninstall before doing the registry search and deleted tons of entries but still no-go!

Did you delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Cakewalk Music Software\Dimension Pro

    and

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Cakewalk Music Software\dp

I doubt those two registry keys will make any difference but Cakewalk recommends deleting them when you are doing a complete uninstall of Dim Pro.  Worth a try, but don't expect any luck.

Hmmm.  That's the same thing that happened to me, though I'm using Windows 7 x64.  Like I've said before, I wound up uninstalling both Sonar 8.53 and Dimension Pro and then reinstalling both and that's what made it work for me.  Might not work for you, though, since you're using Vista.  I'd try reinstalling Sonar and Dim Pro.  If that doesn't work, you'll want to contact Cakewalk and see if they can solve the issue for you.  This issue is a real pain, no doubt about it.  I hope you get it resolved ASAP.  I assume you've tried opening Sonar as an Administator and that didn't work for you, either?

    Hi, Bob,

Those Wow6432 entries must be specific to Windows 7 and not be in Vista.  I doubt removing them would have made any difference, anyways, even if you had them.

I think the solution to your issue is to give Cakewalk a call and see if they can rescue you.  If it were me, I'd try a reinstall of Sonar but maybe it would be smarter to see what the techs at Cakewalk have to say before you do that.  There was one post I saw from Cakewalk tech support that made a point of saying that they seriously suggest that people call them if they're having Dim Pro issues.

In any case, I sure hope you get this worked out.  I'd be interested to know how you resolved it when you finally get it fixed.

    Best regards,
    Bill

Go into Regedit (if you know what you're doing) and check to make sure it has the right key.

I forgot to add that yesterday I temporarily installed and then uninstalled Sonar 8 Producer and DP successfully on my little netbook to see if there was a problem with my discs but everything including registration went fine.

What I realized is that on my main computer where I'm having the problem, that after uninstalling DP, clearing all registry entries, and doing a fresh install, it does ask for my ser# but never completes registration.  Is that because it never gets that far because of the .dll error?

I believe SONAR 7 had a problem with the Dim Pro installer, as this issue affected a great many users (myself included) who installed DP for the first time when it came bundled with SONAR. I suspect that they made some change for security purposes, because the failure occurs in the authentication process. I ultimately had to resort to Process Monitor to figure out what was happening - and the problem wasn't in the registry as I would have assumed.

What you have to do is delete a file in an unexpected place that's not associated with the Dim Pro install. I have been advised by CW that I should not pass along this fix because it's potentially dangerous, but if you open a support request they can advise you.

    bit,

Do you think having Sonar 7 & 8 on the same system could be part of the problem?   I don't use 7, just being lazy.

I guess I'll have to wait until monday to get a ticket going.

    thx

Very unlikely. I have 7, 8 and 8.5 all installed here with no conflicts. I don't have X1. Like you, I don't actually use the old revs except to occasionally compare their behavior to 8.5. But keeping old revs around doesn't take up much space so it's not worth the potential problems that could arise as a result of uninstalling them.

Re:Dimension Pro: Getting Reinstall Error After Re-Installing! 2011/07/06 11:47:57 (permalink)
    Hey folks,
For all of you going through all the issues with Dimension Pro Install, I finally got mine to work, and the solution was simple once I realized what was going on.  The thing I was missing is at the end of this message, but probably a good idea to do the following as well.

First, do follow the advice of support (search the database), but it is also listed numerous time here, which is to uninstall Dimension Pro, and go through the registry and delete all the keys (once again, covered in many places on the forum and in support database).  Disable your spyware and virus software and disconnect all external devices, including keyboards, controllers etc.  Reboot, disconnect from the internet, and be sure no antivirus of spyware killer program is running.

I am running Windows 7 64 bit, so the next steps may vary depending on your system.  Run the installer "AS ADMINISTRATOR"  If you right click on the install icon, there will be an option to "run as administrator."  Do your install to the default locations.

Start the free standing program first (install should have put an icon on your desktop) BTW, I used the 64 bit version.  RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR because DP will not accept your registration number if you don't.

OK, be sure the free standing unit is working and close it out.  Start X1 (that's what I am using, anyway). Just to be safe, for this first time, run X! "AS ADMINISTRATOR."

Now, and this is what was so simple...go to "Insert/softsynth/plug-in layouts/manage layouts.  Look under DXI instruments (Direct Instruments) and see if there is an entry for Dimension Pro.  If there is, highlight in and choose to exclude it.  You will get an error message about an invalid path.  That's OK, just exclude it.  Now go to your VST instruments.  Do you see Dimention Pro?  I didn't.  Rescan plugins and it should just pop in under the VST instruments once you do the scan.  Now, when you go to insert Dimension PRO as a softsynth within X! or Sonar,  it should work and you won't get the message that the plugin was not properly installed.

What I was doing (I can hear the snickers from the experienced folks) was trying to insert the OLD DXi instrument which is no longer intalled.  DP is now a VST instrument.  All I had to do was rescan my VST instruments and it found it.  If you already see two softsynths named Dimension Pro, when you choose to insert a softsynth,  the top one is the DXi and the one further down is the VST and it should work fine.  Go through the steps in the previous paragraph to make the reference to the DX1 go away if you choose.

I just wanted to share this in case somebody else was stuck where I was.  I wasted hours doing reinstall after reinstall.  BTW, Cakewalk support was very responsive to my emails.  I've let them know as well, so people can be sure and check for this simple solution before going through all the reinstall hassle.

Re:Dimension Pro: Getting Reinstall Error After Re-Installing! 2011/07/07 09:46:38 (permalink)
    Michael,

You somehow did it for me! I removed DP from the DXI, rescanned and had to re-insert DP (from VST) in the songs that would no longer work!

    THANKS !
