VSTi Not Recognized by HS7
I recently picked up Miroslav Philharmonik CE but cannot get it to show up in Sonar Home Studio. I've never had this problem with any other VSTi's and I have a couple other IK products. The problem is perhaps complicated by the fact that I can't open Cakewalk Plugin Manager, which I presume allows you to rescan (click on it and nothing happens). I've run out of ideas. Any suggestions? Thanks! Mel

I guess no one has experienced this problem, the 'can't open the plug-in manager' part. That's a serious glitch. How are you trying to get to the manager? Clicking 'Tools'? If you never unchecked the box in the manager to Scan on Start Up, it would scan automatically once SONAR is opened. Where is the VST located on your hard drive? Maybe copy/move it to the Cakewalk VST plug-ins file and hope it scans on start up?

Thanks for the responses. Yes, I reach the Cakewalk Plugin Manager through the Tools pull-down. I don't recall ever unchecking the box to scan at startup (I don't think I would on purpose). Can you tell whether it's scanning on startup? I know you could with previous versions, but I don't see any evidence of it now. But again, I haven't had this problem before and I've added other plugins in the last 2-3 months. I keep all my VSTi's in the Cakewalk "shared plugins" folder. I tried moving it to the VST folder, which Sonar also is set up to scan, but to no avail. I'm using Home Studio 7, with XP SP3 as the operating system. Do you think I'm going to need to reload HS7? If so, any advice as to the best way to do that with the least amount of disruption and time spent? Thanks!! Mel

try running it stand alone - it is a standalone program which is called by SHS. use windows explorer to go to C:/PROGRAM FILES/CAKEWALK/SONAR HOME STUDIO and I think it's in that folder, but it might be in a subfolder of that one. and I can't remember what it's called right now either, but some abbreviation of PLUGIN MANAGER .exe. try running it with SHS closed and see what happens. if that doesn't work then you might need to reinstall.

Hi Beagle, Thanks for your help. I could only find Sonar Plugin Manager, which doesn't offer a rescan option. I think I need the Cakewalk Plugin Manager. Both are listed under Tools, but only the Sonar one works. So if I'm left to reinstalling HS7, what do I need to do? Uninstall first? If so, do I need to save music files or other files elsewhere? I've not done this before and Google didn't provide much help, so any advice is appreciated. Thanks again, Mel

The one or two, or three times I've re-installed a program, all the projects were where they were before the uninstallation. They are not deleted when you uninstall. I seem to remember that Cake wants you to use their uninstall utility, not the Add/Remove Programs in Windows. Check that first.

I believe that Beagle is correct. You firstly need to open it as a standalone to initialise it. If necessary, you might also need to set the multisamples path at this stage. Then close it before running Sonar.

Does it work in standalone mode? If not, then maybe you need to reinstall MP, not Sonar.

I believe beagle is referring to the stand-alone Plug-in manager. Back in Home Studio 4, the plug-in manager was a separate program. In all versions since Sonar6(and SHS6), the plug-in manager is fully integrated, and is not visible as a separate program. I just checked SHS6XL, Sonar 8, MC5, and X1E. All of them have only the Cakewalk Plug-In Manager. No mention of a Sonar Plug-In Manager anywhere, so that seems a bit odd. When was the last time you installed a plug-in that did work? It's possible a simple system restore would be all that is necessary. Any programs installed after the restore point you select will disappear, so be careful. System Restore is reversible, but I would be inclined to select the earliest checkpoint that seems reasonable. Also, opinions vary on this, but I prefer to allow software to install to its default location, then include that folder in the PIM search list. Some plug-ins do not like to be moved, especially after install. And last, but not least, you did extract the files, didn't you?
