Need help with something probably simple editing wise

Working on a large project, 2 hours long. I have tons of edits and therefore many gaps in the audio. I want to delete certain songs and close the gap by moving tracks over. the problem is, the length of the project is too be for me to be able to lasso the file to move them over.
What I've tried is create splits at the beginning and end of the section I want removed, except where the edits had already made gaps there.
I made a selection on the time bar at the top of the track view and selected all tracks and tried different deletes.
No Dice.

What I'd really like is make selection at the top, delete all contents in between and everything including markers and automation slide over.

Any help?

I'm not quite sure what you're doing without seeing it, but you can highlight a clip and use simple copy and paste to move your clips to the desired location.  This method doesn't require as much screen space.  Hope this helps.

What do you mean "no dice". Does the material not get deleted? What you described should delete all selected material.

IIRC "Cut + Delete Hole" is the right command in the Edit dropdown list.

It's possible, that if you first select the portion in the time line, selecting the tracks after that can deselect the time line portion. Pressing Ctrl+A is the easiest way to select everything.

Anyway, it's unclear to me how the operation fails. Does nothing happen? No messages?
