Kontakt - Convert single output to 16 outputs?

I currently have 16 midi tracks going to a single instance of Kontakt, which has stereo output.  Each MIDI track has its own channel.

Is there a way to convert the Kontakt instance to a "16 out" version, where I have 16 audio tracks, each one corresponding to one of the MIDI channels?

Thanks!

I think the only way to do it would be to have 16 instances of Kontakt running, one for each track. That's going to take a powerful computer.  Unless you need to change the MIDI often I would just bounce each one to an audio track. That way you'll have them in the future even if you no longer have Kontakt.

K4 (I can't remember what happened in earlier versions) has a comprehensive ability to create multiple audio outs.  There is an Outputs toggle in the top line of the GUI, which opens a "mixer" from which you can manage the number of pairs of outs. Once you have configured Kontakt, Sonar sees the outputs as available for track input, so you will then just need to set up corresponding audio tracks and assign K's outs as track Ins.

You can create a default set-up in Kontakt if you want these outs to be available in future cases.

I believe you can add as many outputs as you want. Open the mixer pane and click on "Add Channel". (I'm using K3, don't know if K4 is different but probably isn't.)

So, we can turn a single-output Kontakt instance into a 16-out Kontakt instance by fiddling with the outputs?  Is the "16-out" version just a shortcut, and not a separate .dll?

Well, they are actually separate DLLs.  However, they all seem to have the single-ended version in common (it's 27Mb, the 8- and 16-out versions are only 300Kb each). I'm guessing they are there as a convenience.

My vague recollection is that the "special" versions are there to be used with hosts that cannot understand the number of outs in a vst being changed on the fly (or something like that). Sonar is not one of those, so you don't need to worry about that.

This is how I did it:

    1. Open an instance of Kontakt. I use K4. In the plugin dialog window select "All Synth Audio Outputs: Stereo or Mono" (whatever one you like)

    2. Load you sample or sample set/bank

    3. In Kontakt in the output section, you will have the option to create a new output for that sample or sample set. It will appear in the the Kontakt Mixer section with the sample set name.

    4. You can then assign the output channel by selecting the output button under the fader and selecting your outs.

    I hope that helps.

    Good Luck.

    Oops...

I forgot to mention that I use the Kontakt 16-out version.
