computer processor for sonar 8...

does sonar 8 seriously need a dual core processor???

upgrading software is one thing but buying a new laptop is another.  I'm still using a Sager with an X64 3500+ athlon.

I'm so fed up with how cumbersome home studio 7xl is at trying to make backing tracks using an audio file of the original song as a "template"  getting my tracks and then deleting the song...  I've had nothing but trouble with timing issues (BPM) of imported audio files.

Thanks for any advise!

Wayne

Oh...  I posted to the home studio forum and people want to know what song it is.. have i tried looking for a midi file...   Seriously..  just because it says new member does not mean I'm stupid.  Home studio worked fine for straight forward stuff...  I'm trying to make live backing tracks to fill in the holes for some band stuff...  which means "click track required"...

More is better but I ran DimPro on a single core desktop with no problems.  It doesn't need to stream from the hard disk which is good and doesn't need that much memory for the mostly short samples.  If the laptop ain't doing a whole lot else you shouldn't have problems.

IIRC the recommended rig for SONAR 8 is quadcore. I could not make SONAR 6 run properly on a single core.
I'm sure you can use version 8 on a single core somehow, but that will require using workarounds and freeze function a lot. Also, the CPU hungriest of the included VSTs will surely put your laptop on its knees (if you get Producer, Essential doesn't have them, but I believe it's AudioSnap you're after so Producer it is??). How's with your RAM?

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

I haven't ever tried a single core. I could run small-medium projects on an old dual core PC...I don't remember the spec.
I have an i5 dual core now with hyperthreading, and it can run about 80 tracks with effects. I know there are much more powerful processors around but this does the job for me, and in these days is bog standard and cheap.
