looking for a simple basic recording software w virtual mixing board.

[<font][<font]Hello I'm new here and from the old school recording. I'm 50 and selling the old school recording. I don't know what category I'm needing so I will post this in a couple sections hoping someone will help. I'm looking for a simple basic recording software without having to use any external devises except a microphone. I'm looking for a recording software that possible have a virtual mixing board. I've seen this set up on other programs. I don't care if its an older version without alot of bells and whistles. Any ideas on this line very cheap, but to fool around with in my basement. Thank you in advance....

SOnar home studio.  Pretty easy to understand.  But I'd download a couple of demos of DAWs to see which is quickest to grok, and then stick with it.  The old Pro Audio was quickest for me, much better than logic and even cubase.

If you are just doing audio Vegas is great.  but it is more expensive than most entry level daws, but you can edit video with it too.

I'd add in these DAWs to look at as well:

    Reaper for $40

    Mixcraft5 for $65 through Amazon
    http://www.acoustica.com/mixcraft/

Sony Acid Music Studio 8.0 for $50 from Amazon

Simple, basic, audio, and midi, I would choose Music Creator 5 from Cakewalk.... $40 in the boxed version from the local big box store. (avoid the download version)

It does everything you will need for the average person. I have MC4 & 5. I tend to use the older MC4 but I have no plans to upgrade. MC4/5 has plenty of tracks, handles VSTi's extremely well, and I love the simplicity of it.

Don't let the $40 price make you think it's not capable of broadcast quality levels in production.... listen to my music. It's all from MC4. Link on my webpage.

I would ALWAYS consider buying a dedicated audio/midi USB interface that uses ASIO drivers. Factory sound cards don't cut it.

It's listed HERE in the "beginner" software section of Cake Products. I've been using this "beginner" software over 3 years now and love it.
