Adding Blank Time?

How do you edit the end of a mix to have the trails of sounds like reverb and delay to continue without recording a blank track?

Not sure what you're asking. If you add any effects to a track, it should continue to sound even after the track ends. That has certainly been my experience. Can you elaborate a little? Tell us what you are doing exactly so we can help better.

In Options-dialogue check " Play effects tails after stop".

And if that doesn't work, just drag the right hand edge of ANY clip (audio or midi) somewhere to the right, giving it enough space to fill your tails & fades.

Caveat: Don't do it to a groove-clip, for obvious reasons.

I'm talking about the very end of a song I have a long reverb trail but when I export the file to my desktop it stops the mix at 3:00 as opposed to say 3:10.

Does it still do it after trying what's advised above?

Yes. Adding effect trails only effects the trails while stopping the mix in Sonar. And the song I'm working on is all loops so I couldn't simply drag the right side of any given track and move it to the right.

There has to be a way to do this without recording nothing and then dragging that. It just seems more professional to not do it that way.

Try highlighting your time line to force what is bounced. So try to take it out a measure longer than where the song ends.

A good work around I use is to add an instance of Session Drummer and add a single drum hit well after the point where you want the reverb to end. Then, when mastering, clip it out.

+1 - That's all I ever do.  I listen to a playback, note when all tails have actually faded, then choose even a bit more when I do the 2-track export.  I do my final work in Sound Forge, so if I've added a crazy amount of time, I just delete it in Forge.
