My First Sonar X1 Recording

This is a first-draft of a still untitled tune.  It still has some important finishing touches awaiting it.  Some inspiration is swirling around in this regard, but if anyone has any input or ideas, I'm definitely all ears, open to suggestions, critiques, etc...  I plan to record 1 song per week for a few months and see if I can put enough good material together for a new CD later this year.  Here's the Soundcloud page with the cleverly titled "Ballad in G":

Well done.  Good first recording.  The sound is nice, and the arrangement and melody is easy on the ears.

I wonder if the drums are very slightly late?  This can happen sometimes if you (like me) record slightly ahead of the beat... if you had the drum track down first.

Just my thoughts.  My ears may be out of sync, so best wait for others to chime in before making any changes!

    Cheers,

Thanks, guys.  I'm loving X1.  The massive sound library, with multiple synths, each with 100s and 100s of quality sounds at your fingertips, is simply amazing.  And I love "Session Drummer".  I particularly like the acoustic sets...the Steven Slate "Sizzle Kit Dry" is my favorite....just a phenomenal, crispy, poppy, REAL DRUMSET sound.  Love it.

I'm not sure about the timing thing you mentioned.  I'll have to give it another listen with that in mind.   I do have a tendency of playing "on top of" the beat, usually on purpose.  That may be part of it.  I want the drums to feel "in the pocket" on this one.  Thanks for the comments!

Pretty cool stuff! I didn't think the drums sounded off, but I suppose everyone's ear is different. It did seem a little on the quiet side to me, but that may just be the hosting site.

brent, no, that's probably a result of my settings on the levels.  I will remix it soon, after adding one or two new elements, and will try to boost the overall level a tad.  Thanks for that.

Not a problem! It's one of the things I feel is a constant battle for me, so I noticed it right away :)

I enjoyed your piano piece more, but I'm biased. This is very nice too.  I sure wish I could have done half this well on my first (50) recordings!  :)

Hey Janet! I think we're aware of your piano bias :)
I have a new tune up also, but I'm afraid there isn't any piano in this one at all! ;)
