more PRV and snap weirdness
I hope someone can help with this because it's driving me crazy. This is with x1b and latest quickfix. I want grid resolution at 1/16th in PRV. So, in PRV, I got to view -> grid resolution -> 1/16. Problem 1: The grid lines are there, great, but my data doesn't snap magnetically to the grid, as I want. Presumably this is because my global snap to grid settings are set to measure. This is super frustrating because I want to move clips by measures and my midi by 1/16ths. (I know Sonar Plus has the option to separate grid settings but apparently it doesn't work with x1b.) Problem 2: This is the really weird one. When I close PRV and reopen it the grid lines are no longer set to 1/16. And what's weirder... now my global snap settings are set to 1/8 triplet. WTF? I never use 1/8 triplets. Anyone else having issues like this? edit: i just opened a new project to see if it would get rid of the problem. First thing I do: open PRV and presto, my snap settings magically go to 1/8th triplets! Argh...

Try using screensets if you don't want to use benstats sonar plus. First set a variable in you cakewalk.ini file called IncludeSnapInScreenset=1 that will allow differenet snap to settings per screenset. Then set up your view how you want it, windows, snap settings, etc. Make sure Magnetic strength is set to "Off" for full snap. Make sure the screenset isn't locked, if so unlock it. In the PRV make sure that "Grid follows snap settings" is checked - if that's what you want of course. Press ctrl+0 which will copy this screenset to screenset 10 (assuming you aren't already using all the screenset slots). It may appear that nothing has happened because you've just cloned the first screenset. Now change the snap settings to your clip moving preference and set up the screenset how you want it to look. You can now jump between the two set ups by pressing 1 & 0 respectively. I haven't installed the quickfix yet but I don't see the behaviour in X1b.

Thanks for the screenset idea but it's still a hassle. The problem is that I don't usually think about the snap settings until I'm in the middle of an action (e.g. moving/resizing a clip) which means that, in X1, I have to cancel the action to change the settings (through snap or screenset) and then go back and start the action again. It's super inconvenient, especially since previous versions of Sonar kept the settings separate. I don't understand why it's not at least an option in X1.

It's a little thing but very very distracting. The problem is I haven't heard word one about separating the snap functions. Not sure what the thinking was/is.

+1 on the separate snap. I don't understand why. TIf the snap was non-global and someone wants them all the same they can still set them that way. At the moment users are forced to have them the same. Seems crazy to me.

This is so buggy annoying - sorry. I'm working on a drum track with Addictive Drums. Issie:- Open PRV, set snap and grid resolution, use drum map, dragging drum map out so all drum component names are visible. Close PRV when done. Re-open later on and: grid gone back to 1/4, viertical lines disappeared and drum kit component names column shrunk back to being useless (actually that's a longgggg standing Sonar bug but us MIDI users always seem bottom of the list when fixes are handed out...) Is it too much to ask that the PRV I just used comes back with the same settings when I reopen it later? Yes, I know dock it... but it should work the other way also, or it's: "Bugger, I closed it and I should have docked it...". Why do I often feel that when I'm using X1 I'm fighting programmers who are absolutely determined that I will work in the way they think best? Don't even get me started on the enormous palaver I have to now go through just to change the velocities on a group of PRV notes...

I noticed your comment in the OP about SONAR Plus separate snap settings not working in X1b. The latest version (1.0.0.8) works fine with X1b for the vast majority of people. I'll also be releasing an update this weekend that fixes one or two minor bugs, but even without that, the separate snap settings will probably work fine for you with the current version of Plus and X1b (incl. hot fix). Just make sure you run Plus with the same permissions/priveledges as you run SONAR with (ie. if you run SONAR by right clicking it, and selecting 'Run as administrator', you must do the same for Plus too, otherwise don't worry about it). Thanks, Ben
