Console Set-Up? VS-700C

V-Studio and Sonar X1 running on Sweetwater Creation Station Rack 64.  Console, I/O, and PC connected as per instructions.  Steady green lights for I/O and USB.  Sweetwater installed software before shipping.

Issue: No time display showing on console and transport buttons on console do nothing.

Is there some parameter in Sonar that needs to be set to enable the console?  Ideas?

Thanks.

    Hi there !

You need to go to Edit/Preferences/ControlSurfaces

You need to then add a new control surface pick VS-700c in both of the boxes on that screen and save.

I cant give any more info than that as I am not at my Daw and trying to remember exactly what to click but doing what I said above should get you there

If you have any problems let me know I wil be at my DAW in the morning and talk you through it if you dont get it fixed or some one else pipes in before then :)

    Hey, Norrie.  Thanks for answering.

Under Preferences | Control Surfaces, I see 1 VS-700 under control surface, and then midi controllers next to it as the In and Out port.  No idea if this is right...

No probs man! Glad to help !

Thats the right Screen the VS-700 should be on the left of the screen then across from that there should be 2 drop down menues you need to pick the VS-700C in both the in and out port then hit save or ok.( I dont remember what the selection is) then just reload Sonar and it will load up working :)

That should be you up and runing :)

Its nearly 4 in the morning in here in scotland so I am heading to bed but if you need any more help I will be back in a few hours

Issue resolved and thanks again my friend for pointing me in the right direction.  For the benefit of others, here are the steps I took::

Cakewalk says, "Under Audio > Driver Settings, make sure your Playback Timing Master and your Record Timing Master are both set to the VS-700."  I don't know what to pick under Record Timing Master.  Options are VS-700 FANTOMA VS, VS-700 ARX, VS-700 AUX, VS-700 IN 1-2, etc.

    Cakewalk says:
Under MIDI > Devices select the following MIDI ports under both Inputs and Outputs: CONSOLE (VS-700), FANTOM VS (VS-700), and IO MIDI (VS-700). You do not need to enable ARX (VS-700), V-LINK (VS-700) or DV-7 (VS-700) unless you have the compatible hardware connected. NOTE: Do NOT select "IO (VS-700)". The "IO (VS-700)" MIDI port is used for firmware updates to the VS-700R and should not be enabled in SONAR. If it is enabled it will not harm your unit, however your pre-amps will not work properly unless you disable it and re-launch the application. Click [Apply] if any changes were made.

I did this--did not correct the problem.

    Cakewalk says,

Under MIDI > Control Surfaces click on the "Add New Controller/Surface" button on the top right. For Controller/Surface select "VS-700" and for the Input Port and Output Port select "CONSOLE (VS-700)". Click [OK].

I did this.  Control surface is now active.

Thanks!  One more question: The console shows Hours:Minutes:Seconds when I press and light up the Time next to the display.  When I turn time off, however, that display is blank and does not show Measures:Beats:Ticks.  Any thoughts?

PS I also have  VoiceWorks plus--very cool unit.  Be interesting to know how you compare it to the V-Vocal tool within Sonar for auto-correction.  I find the TC-Helicon works better with some people's voices than others (as did my old Digitech).

    No problem !

I havent actualy Changed my time display since I installed X1 so mine night be doing the same I will go and check.

You have nstalled the X1b update ?

Yeah the voice works is a great unit ! I agree it has a good out come with som people and not others but you can make a lot of your own setings in it aswell to try and suit who you are working with.

I havent used V-Vocal much but from the other guys on the forum who do use it I hear good things :)

I will go check my beats and measures button for you ! :)

Don't know if X1b is installed: sweetwater.com preinstalled everything before shipping to me.  I will check when I am in front of the console.

Thanks, Norrie.  1-Yes I will do the updates/fixes.  Thanks for the link.  2-My console now will show both time formats (musical measures or clock time).  The problem was that someone had inadvertently set up a little USB keyboard as a second control surface and that was confusing the v-studio.  When I found that and deleted it, everything started working!

I need to win a lottery so I can devote 12 hours a day to learning all this stuff and resolving the issues...I still have audio driver problems intermittently

    Hey Konradh,

Admittedly, SONAR will sometimes shuffle the order of the MIDI devices when new USB MIDI devices are added or removed from the system. SONAR can have as many control surfaces as you want connnected to your system, but its worth noting to double check your MIDI I/O selection and CS I/O selection when adding or removing MIDI devices, like a controller, to or from your system.

This is something we are looking into for the future, FWIW.

    HTH!
