Well of course I am using a softsynth...lol I have used this configuration of hardware to control software synths before so I know it works. You have to at least assume that I know a little bit about what I am doing if I have used it before lol
Well...we only know what we read about your skills and gear, nothing more. In case we assume something, experience has taught us to assume the lesser/negative. Every week we get new people here who don't know that MIDI has no sound or who threaten to change to Pro Tools because SONAR MIDI sounds crappy.
So, unfortunately, the only way to get the message delivered is to describe in details what gear is being used and how. And describing the problem isn't as easy as one might think.
The following, for example:
"I have audio output but no output from the midi" is very unclear to me. You say you have audio output, but that you don't hear anything!?.
Does it mean you can hear audio tracks in general, in playback and monitoring? OK. But then, what does the "
output from MIDI" mean, then? To where should the MIDI be put out? Maybe it means you can not trigger audio with your MIDI, sounds logical, but what is creating the audio?
You leave so much for me to guess, that I don't feel like starting to compose an answer.
Or
"I can hit a key and see that it is indeed triggering a sound but no output." Where can you see it triggering a sound, or do you only see MIDI activity inside SONAR (not only in EMU)? We can't assume it's in the soft synths GUI because we don't know about any soft synth being used, and having just read that you have "
no output from the MIDI" .
Please, don't feel offended by this, I'm just trying to tell how it looks like from the point of view of the person who's trying to answer the questions.
Unfortunately I can't give you my suggestion for a solution, because I really don't know what the set up is. Which soft synth is inserted/set up how, with inputs/outputs from where/to etc.
