how to customize session drummer 3
i would like to create my own sets..and i can..except the hi-hats..have a problem.when i chose a hi-hat it only gives me the open hat..for instance i use a midi controler to trigger sd3.when i change the hi-hat both the closed hat and open hat on my controler devise change to an open hat. i know how to load the instrument i just cant load a double instrument into that one hi-hat slot in sd3(closed and open hi-hat considered double)any words of wisdom?

I have also been trying to figure that out...no luck yet. I thought if you choose the diferent sounds..i.e. rt-clicking on the drum and choosing a differt one it would load the new instrument but I still end up with one sound per drum...?

It's that way with some of the snare samples too.

It's a given that Session Drummer cannot load more than one sample per drum. So, I load an open hat sample into one of the pads. But, for the life of me, I can't get the closed hat to cut off the open one. Now, since the GM Drums map on my old creative Soundblaster card knew that an open hat followed by a pedaled or struck one should be cut by the new note, I suspect that the solution might lie in the choice of Drum Map. But, this is just a very very ignorant guess. Someone out there please....

Have you considered making the HiHat sound your looking for using SD3 Step sequencer recording it then import it as a seperate sound together to your Hat track. Kinda like importing and mixing different kits together-kicks, toms, etc...

There is no easy way to load new samples (properly) into Session Drummer 3 without getting your hands dirty editing sound font files. If you load a single sample into a drum or pad - it will take over the entire pad, and every note assigned to it. Hi-Hats are particularly tricky, because you have to assign the mute controls. If you load an open hat into one pad, the other pad (closed hat) cannot mute it. This must be built in a sound font - which is not for the faint of heart. There was another thread about this a while back. http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?high=&m=2220641 Sorry I don't have better news for you!

I think what starts the confusion is that right clicking on an instrument in the kits shows different sounds mapped for different notes. For the Hat I thought great I select closed hat, load a closed hat sound, then i select open hat, load an open hat sound and I'm good. Reading this thread confirms that this isn't going to get you more than one sound so what exactly in the feature telling us, that we can use 3 different notes for one sound?

Hmm, didn't save my text in previous post for some reason. --------------------------------------- Maybe I am missing something here now, but anyway-- You are able to choose any wav-file in the browser and drag it into SD3, just choose any kick, snare, hi-hat you want for your set. Route them as you please and save as a SD template. I haven't got a problem with Hi-hats, but maybe that's in the built in library? chuckebaby i would like to create my own sets..and i can..except the hi-hats..have a problem.when i chose a hi-hat it only gives me the open hat..for instance i use a midi controler to trigger sd3.when i change the hi-hat both the closed hat and open hat on my controler devise change to an open hat. i know how to load the instrument i just cant load a double instrument into that one hi-hat slot in sd3(closed and open hi-hat considered double)any words of wisdom?

Scott is absolutely right, although i am totally NOT a fan of that approach on cakewalks part. Any sample based drum tool should be able to easily map samples to notes without resorting to a text editor.
